If you could live in any city in the world (post-pandemic), other than where you live now, which one would you choose and why?

Tokyo: safest city in the world.

Uruyasu. I want to use an Annual Passport to go to Tokyo Disneyland / Disney Sea every day once they begin selling them again and I don't have to wear a mask.

Victoria BC, Canada or Vancouver BC. Both set in beautiful areas with mountains and sea. Weather is rarely extreme. Food choices as good as they get.

Three years ago, it ‘was’ Hong Kong”. {when last asked the same question, sans (post-pandemic).}

Sadly, that dream was crushed ‘by something more sinister’ than the pandemic.

My world does not end with these four walls. Slough’s a big place. When I’ve finished with Slough, there’s Reading, Aldershot, Bracknell. Didcot, Yateley. You know. Winnersh. Taplow. Because I am my own boss. Burghfield.

Definitely not Swindon. Full of little slugs.

Don't want to live in any city.

Too much concrete and pollution, too many people, not enough green, not enough space.

I'm happy where I am, but if I had to choose a city, it would be Tokyo, I think. Assuming that I could choose the outer edges of it, like Ogasawara Village.

City centre - nah.

Barcelona, Valencia, San Francisco or Sydney spring to mind. Great people, beautiful, interesting cities and generally mild winters.

Cold winters are just crap. Never want to experience another.

There are many places I'd like to live pre-pandemic or post-pandemic. How the pandemic influences our choice of city is unclear.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Kofu in Yamanashi Prefecture or just any capital city (aside from Tokyo) of Japan's prefectures that is less urbanized and has a colder climate.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Lisbon. For the culture, food, wine and climate.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Anywhere near the Mediterranean ...the scenery, climate, culture, food, educated and life loving people.

Man, you beat me to it! Mediterranean or the Caribbean for the same reasons as well it’s far away from everyone and everything, would never miss a big city.

Yep, as good it gets. Particularly the ‘life loving people’. I have a lot of time for Japan but I remember coming back to Japan from the Mediterranean and the word that sprang into my head was ‘joyless’.

Victoria, BC - I've travelled a lot, and coming home to this small but picturesque city is always a pleasure. There's no better place than the City of Gardens.

Barcelona, Valencia, San Francisco or Sydney spring to mind. Great people, beautiful, interesting cities and generally mild winters.

I hear the rent is pretty cheap there, too!

Myself, Id like one of those coastal cities north of Miami (with a slip for my yacht, of course)

Who did you hear this nonsense from?

Uninformed hysterics yet again. San Francisco and Sydney are very expensive cities. Barcelona isn’t cheap either. Valencia is a bit more reasonable.

If you keep picking up the bargains at Costco, you might save enough money to visit one day. Maybe Valencia is most suitable for your pocket.

The pandemic is irrelevant to my choice. Heat is more of a problem. So maybe the outer suburbs of a northern city in Japan or South Korea for the warmer months. Summer I could spend further south. There are some lovely places less than an hour by train from Tokyo or Kumamoto City.

Maybe a large villa, temperature controlled and the air filtered. Grounds enough for a large glasshouse for the tropicals, a substantial vegetable garden and a modest arboretum. Quake proof and elevated enough to avoid flooding.

JP or SK as they are safer and more polite than Chav Britannia, and endlessly photogenic.

I dislike hot weather, so I would probably spend most of the summer inside, keeping cool, working, and the cooler months exploring somewhere different each day and taking photos.

oh, "Rent".

Sorry....

San Diego: its 72 degrees every day of the year lol.

Perfect combination of "plenty to do" and "I don't want people on top of me".

Only drawback is its in California.

Lots of votes for Vancouver. It's a beautiful city, and a great standard of living, but it's extremely expensive, a little small, and it rains too much for me. I'd love to have a summer home maybe, but year round would be hard.

I'd say much the same about San Francisco. It can get very cold, even in the middle of summer in San Francisco.

Sydney is a good one. Good standard of living, excellent weather. Large city. Somewhat isolated from the rest of the world, and pretty expensive though.

I don't know where I'd go. Maybe the south of Spain. Nice weather, nice people, nice siestas. Decent quality of living, but things aren't too expensive. Not much work there though.

Barcelona, Valencia, San Francisco or Sydney spring to mind. Great people, beautiful, interesting cities and generally mild winters.

Barcelona is full of rioters and the economy is in shambles. San Francisco is full of homeless drug addicts with feces infested subways. Sydney is super hot and you have to constantly worry about drought conditions and killer insects. Vancouver is super expensive and is constantly cold and wet. Tokyo is the best!

Fukuoka.

People there are unbelievable nice and the food is awesome.

Hongkong

Before 1997!

I had an amazing time there.

For anyone saying Vancouver, it rains about 200 days a year, doesn't it. Rain is the reason people say grunge came from Seattle just down the road. The Seattle Mariners baseball team are also notorious for losing players and managers because they don't want to live there. Great street meat and Vietnamese food in Vancouver though. Fantastic scenery nearby too.

When I’ve finished with Slough, there’s Reading, Aldershot, Bracknell. Didcot, Yateley....

To the West you got Taplow and Bray. You got Hillingdon the other way.

It's a p!sstake, but what a song.

I don't have enough money, but somewhere on mainland Europe near the Alps for me.

Maldives,

Any island in the Maldives with 25 to 31 C all year around, good people, plenty of sea food.

*@zichi 11:18a. *IF it’s a privately-owned, gated-community condo with a homeowner’s association, deed restrictions and sustainable, self-sufficient power you’re all set.

However, sorry for some, potentially, bad news but, Delray is having some serious water problems now and the beaches are no longer ‘white’ as advertised in that MiamiHotels.org survey.

”Jan 21, 2021 - The problems in Delray Beach began years ago when reclaimed water pipes were cross-connected with drinking water pipes. Reclaimed water (found in toilets and sprinklers) can contain viruses and bacteria that are not safe to drink.

Plus, the resale value of Florida ‘timeshares’ have diminished to next to nothing and the ‘saddled’ insurance, taxes & maintenance fees continue to mount. - If that’s the case, Sell it as quick as you can and buy a piece of ‘real’ estate.

Ulaanbaatar.

Cities? Maybe not. Towns or small villages.

Kinsale, Baltimore, Rosscarberry, or Schull.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Yet to find perfection but enjoy the searching.

Vancouver is a wonderful city with a vibrant culture and stunning surroundings. But it does rain a lot and the transport connections to Seattle are almost third world.

Galway is also lovely, especially when one of the many festivals is on.

Same as you Townsend. I concur 100%

Im not so sure roving bands of Muslim Bikini police are good people.

Maldives. Nice place to visit. Sure as hell wouldn't live there.

That’s good news @zichi 1:06p. So, Florida is still a safe, er, haven for retirees? In 10 years, where in the states do you recommend?

Myself, Id like one of those coastal cities north of Miami (with a slip for my yacht, of course)

Just place it upon the shelf with the other bottles.

Nara, lived there for 5 years and miss the place. Perfect combo of city and country.

Nichinan, Miyazaki beautiful scenery of beach and tropical forest.

Nobeoka, Miyazaki is fine but it is mess of dead end streets and streets shooting off suddenly at 45 deg angles. Only 2 bridges that cross the river that cuts the city in half. Strange design.

Many fun and beautiful coastal cities will be under water in possibly fifty years or at least fighting for survival.

So that only leaves me one or two choices. Melon's future Mar's City would be cool, or Wuhan before Mars. Wuhan secret police were very nice to me and a friend for an interview years back. Quite polite and spoke English, French, German, English and of course Japanese. They knew everything about us and our travels. Extremely interesting, It was once a fabulous city. Great night food markets too.

I find peoples choices up above an interesting read especially when they gave reasons.

Galway is also lovely, especially when one of the many festivals is on.

Indeed, and if you're there for a couple of days, a trip out to the Aran Islands is a must. Maybe give Inis Mór a miss during the busy season, as it can get mad crowded.

Love Tokyo.

Excellent for cycling since it is mainly flat.

Great food and people mostly.

Convenient.

Safe.

Love the seasons......though Summer can be more than extreme at times.

Only things going against it are the earthquakes and narrow mindless of most of its population in following the government's and Dentsu's doctrine.

Why a city when you can have a kingdom?

And considering what day it is, why wouldn't anyone want to live in Fife?

Although it is more of a town I would prefer Hanalei on the island of Kauai

In Japan, I'd pick Sapporo (I thrive in cold weather and have to see snow every winter). Yokohama would be my next choice. Overseas, I'd go for Dublin, Seattle or the Swiss town of Interlaken. I love the Swiss Alps.

Pape'ete. Beautiful weather, seas and people. Paradise with very little of the vice and strife we have in most big cities.

Fukuoka.

People there are unbelievable nice and the food is awesome.

Most definitely, if not Texas then Fukuoka wins hands down.

Helsinki, Amsterdam, or somewhere in New-Zealand.
