If you live in Japan, do you know where you need to evacuate to in the event of flooding or an earthquake?

Yeah that goes for any country not just Japan. In Japan is the same anywhere. Floods and Tsunami head for high ground the higher the better. Fire, you head for the most open treeless areas Sport park , beach etc. Common sense or post stress management tells to me always know the area you are in E,G if in a hotel read the manifesto available in the desk draw. This will show the exits, water reserves and survival kits in the room. and procedures and evac points. Keep your phone and passport near or next to you at all times. When leaving your room just hit the convenience store next door take it with you. There might not be a hotel when you return. Just common sense stuff.

Yes.

In our city, we know the evacuation centers. The local government issues a map. There are also meetings and lectures about disasters.

John san... I live basically in a forest, near the ocean in an old minshuku.

I'm screwed aren't I ?

Nah, but you minshuku will be. That why you always found old Kura around villages many centuries old very hard to burn down. I rather buy a Kura in good condition and convert it then renovate an old Minshuku.

I know where to evacuate in critical situation. However, I'm sure that I'll be able to decide to get out from where I am to the specific shelter. Since I do not have an opportunity to get involved in emergency drills, I cannot say I'm totally prepared for the evacuation when necessary.

To the highest ground available at the moment.

No to be honest. There might be some online information, but that is in Japanese only and on some very obscure, unknown Japanese websites.

The information is not as public as it should, even if it is in Japanese only.
