If you read a blog in which the writer outlined plans to go on a killing spree, what would you do?

I would consult the site's moderators.

Inform the company that hosts the blog that they should inform the authorities, since they would know from the IP address where the writer lives.

I would like to talk with the desperate person and to calm him down. Most people need attention and somebody to listen to their problems. They need to know they are not alone and there is somebody who understands their problems and supports them.

What would I do?

Um, show up at the appointed time and place with video cameras set up in three different angles, tape the incident and sell the footage.

Actually this happened to me. A wacko said he was going to blow up a flight to Shikoku and was stupid enough to mention the flight and date. I notified a friend who works for JAL and they wouldn't let him board at Haneda. Never found out if he was actually busted for making threats, but I think he'll be taking the ferry (or bridge) to Shikoku for a while.

Avoid that area and tell people I don't like to go there.
