Music streaming service Spotify entered Japan last month? How do you think it will do in the Japanese market where 80% of music sales still come from CDs and other non-digital formats?

Well it's been three weeks since I requested a membership and still no response, so either they're doing so well they can't handle the onslaught or they're off to a really rough start.

CDs and other non-digital formats?

Since when are CDs not digital?

Well its hard when the music companies put special items like posters, tickets, fan greetings etc in the CDs to get people to buy them. I joined Spotify Japan yesterday (used to use the aussie version via vpn) and one way that they could do to combat this is to do it thru the ads (free version has 30 sec ads every 5 or 6 songs).

I mean users click on the ad to win tickets or downloadable wallpapers etc......but its tough to complete here with alot of J-pop being locked down by certain companies
