On one hand, it is destroying supply chains that relied on sourcing parts and labor from the cheapest country possible and not considering self-sufficiency in a situation like this.

On the other hand, the fight against the virus is also globalized, with scientists across the globe working together and sharing data.

I don't think the virus will destroy globalization, but hopefully it will force us to reconsider how we go about it.

I’d say you asked the wrong people. Globalization is about greed and control. They should have asked George Soros, or the US Congress, any US President prior to Trump, the EU, Merkel, etc.

For example, why is it that a Chinese company can illegally copy and manufacturer a newly patented coffee cup, then ship this coffee cup to the US for only $1. and sell it on Amazon, and yet the original patent holder who manufactures in the US has to pay $14. to ship it to his next door neighbor?

Unlimited, cheap international air travel and globalized just-in-time supply chains with razor-thin margins, both of which are seriously at risk going forward due to this pandemic. I think neither will be the same ever again.

"Global" and "Globalisation" are words used by people who think they understand all about "big business," but actually don't have a clue. Civil servants, for example and people who think that having an MBA is a good idea.

Globalization is the attempt by a small number of wealthy elites to control money and politics in every corner of the world. They attempt to do so by enacting “free” trade, which is not free, but instead allows corporations to shift money at the expense of local economies and results in massive waves of immigration since the free movement of goods and money also necessitates the free moment of labor. This movement of people is an orchestrated attempt to dissolve national borders and weaken national identities. The system depends upon steadily increasing deficit spending, which effectively steals money from people who earn and save. Countries that refuse to participate in the system are treated as international pariahs, and soon finds themselves the subjects of sanctions or military invasion. Globalism is the ideological opponent of nationalism.

I hope it destroys the "globalization" as it has been promoted by our elites until now. Which is the destruction of nation states in favour of unrestricted sloshing of capital, ressources, profits and people to the benefit of big capital.

Please explain the difference. Seriously. The question used the phrase "globalization as we know it", but I'm pretty sure we "know it" in many different ways. I sell my work to companies around the world. Am I a globalist? I'm free to set the price, and my clients are free to tell me to get lost. Am I a free trader?

Yes. But due to that that being a nuanced approach, rather than a binary black/white American-style approach, it will not be comprehendable to many of our American compatriots who can only see the world in a binary fashion, and don't understand nuance. They see that you aren't totally agreeing with them, therefore they assume you must totally be disagreeing with them.

From a vague point of view, internationalize and globalize have different meaning. Globalization looks like a guy talking business with the Earth globe on his hand to control others beyond borders. Internationalization looks like few countries interacting each other understanding business from there. Well, I'd rather both than populism, superiority, xenophobic tendencies, some politicians use methods to wash our brains.
