Some restaurants require that customers use their smartphones to read the QR code in order to see the menu. How do you feel about that? Would you rather see a printed menu?

Cant stand it. They don’t even come take your order any more in some places. Plus I don’t like having my location tracked.

Disgusting. Not everyone has a smartphone; not everyone has a QR reading app; not everyone has good enough eyesight to read a menu on a smartphone screen.

If digitalization is that important, have tablets at each table where people can click on the food they want to buy. Forcing QR codes and smartphone usage on the public is just digitalization for its own sake.

I ask them for a written menu. If they don't have one I stand up and leave.

I went to 'murica this past summer and on top of them wanting me having to use my own phone to see the dang menu, they also wanted me to pay for the waiters/waitresses hourly wages. Just crazy.

I do not feel it strage, though such style has not yet been popular in Japan. Sometimes, menues with oily spots bothers me and take appetite away, so digital menues are welcome for me. Also, digitalizing the menues will reduce the use of paper or other materials, which is environmentally friendly.

I'd make a "U" ey, and go elsewhere.

A dining experience is about people and communication,

not polarizing smartphones options.

At the entrance, if they’re promoting big specials and don’t have much space for full menus, then fine for a QR code menu. Once inside though it’s gotta be a printed menu I reckon.

I've never been to a restaurant without a printed menu. I guess I live far enough away from civilization that QR code menus aren't a thing yet.

I'm happy KFC displays their menu in print still.

If that is the only option they have I simply leave without making a fuzz, some people will think this is good but for me it is just a nuisance, fortunately none of the places I frequent do this, so the couple of times I have seen this I didn't have a problem walking 5 meters to the next place.

Having a proper screen to see instead of having to juggle endless amount of pages on your phone is very different.

What a question. If I wanted something artificial I would take some compressed food and supplement pills. No, of course, if I go to a restaurant I want the real thing, real printed menus, real staff, no robots, and real food and beverages. A smartphone menu and probably soon only an injection at moon prices served by a robot , that is something you can treat those brainless future generations with.

Perhaps it is useful for restaurants which change their menu daily. Otherwise, I don't see the point.

I don't think people who do not own or do not use smartphones should be treated as second class citizens. I would not patronise any establishment that excluded people in this way.

I’m ok with it. Since I’m an old geezer, I usually can’t read the menu without reading glasses and sometimes even with glasses if it’s dark. I take a photo of the menu and can zoom in.

I hate having to scan the QR code menus, and will always ask nicely for a printed one. Usually the staff oblige. I like running my eyes over a large menu for easy comparison, whereas with a menu on my phone I have zoom up and lose perspective.

Sometimes technology is more trouble than it's worth...

I'd rather see the menu. I always opt not to use any smart technology whenever I go out, i.e. pay with cash. I get the convenience and the high-tech novelty of using QR codes but, not everyone owns a smart phone and not all those who own smart phones are willing to use them for every aspect in their lives.

At the very least it should be an option in a country that is over 40% geriatric
