have your say
The number of virtual currency theft cases through hacking in Japan more than tripled from a year before to 158 in January-June, National Police Agency data shows, with financial damage in the theft cases totaling 60.5 billion yen. What do you think is the most effective way to prevent these thefts?

Keep your crypto-currency offline.
Don't consider it an "investment", since it is more like going to a race track and betting.
If you like betting on the horses or dogs and have some money to drop on "hope", fine. For the rest of us, the US stock market is up 20+% year after year for recent history. That will more than double you money every 5yrs.

It's simple, really; eliminate crypto-currencies.

I am sure they will. After they eliminate 3d printing and the internet.

To not shout out the world that you're a crypto paradise, which is what the Japanese authorities have stupidly done.
After the China and Korea crackdowns, some Einsteins in the Japanese govt envisioned a new role for their country as the Swiss banker of the crypto world. Good luck with that, LOL

Why not? Switzerland is trying to be the Swiss banker of the crypto world as well. There are obvious benefits.

Japan's larger exchanges are probably safer than most exchanges elsewhere. They have a larger volume than many countries, and the 60 billion yen was mostly due to one hack at Coincheck, so it can't be said to reflect on the whole industry.
Exchanges are hacked all the time, wherever they are located. This is why people are urged not to keep too much of their bitcoin on exchanges.
