BTW, not sure why or how but Japanese sour cream is far better than anything I can buy in the States.

I agree and I also grow my own potatoes and carrots do think the sour cream in Japan tastes way better than the states, so I make a great ranch dressing from it.

Nobody mentioned Onigiri :(

Warm, homemade onigiri, yes, definitely. Possibly the ultimate comfort food for people raised in Japan.

Cold ones from Lawsons, no. Not warming, and the rice is overcompacted and not fluffy like homemade onigiri. Its like the difference between good and bad baguettes or good and bad sourdough.

Hakata mizutaki (chicken nabe). Highly recommended if you've never had it.

Ramen, Gyoza, Chahan, 肉まん..

So basically Chinese food? But can't beat a combini nikuman with a beer on cold evening.

Burning Bush

Tonjiru I make it every couple of weeks. Nabe. Sukiyaki.

Even in summer months? You're electric bill must be very high...

Can you not afford to cook during the summer? We cook with gas BTW.

Never liked the soggy tempura on top though.

You haven't been here long enough

A hot bowl of soba or udon in one of the shops on the station platform.

I remember getting back to Tokyo after a month or so abroad and that smell as I got off the train felt like a ‘welcome back’.

Never liked the soggy tempura on top though.

Tonjiru, a hearty version of miso soup with pork and lots of veggies, especially potato.

Its handed out at many winter events.

Cocoichi Chicken Katsu Curry

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Or a 肉まん in winter.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

7-11 sandwiches. A seafood cup noodle

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Italian made Pizza, South Australian Red Wine...bought in Japan.

551's nikuman

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Gusto. Hang out there on a rainy day and eat cheap, unhealthy food washed down with awful coffee.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Curry rice. It hits especially good on a cold winter's day.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Ramen, Gyoza, Chahan, and Udon.
