What's your idea of Japanese comfort food?

Ramen, Gyoza, Chahan, and Udon.

Curry rice. It hits especially good on a cold winter's day.

Gusto. Hang out there on a rainy day and eat cheap, unhealthy food washed down with awful coffee.

Tonjiru, a hearty version of miso soup with pork and lots of veggies, especially potato.

Its handed out at many winter events.

Tonjiru I make it every couple of weeks. Nabe. Noodles of most types. Sukiyaki.

No CLUE what so ever since I prepare everything at HOME.

Tonkotsu ramen synonymous with Fukuoka.

A hot bowl of soba or udon in one of the shops on the station platform.

I remember getting back to Tokyo after a month or so abroad and that smell as I got off the train felt like a ‘welcome back’.

So basically Chinese food? But can't beat a combini nikuman with a beer on cold evening.

Warm, homemade onigiri, yes, definitely. Possibly the ultimate comfort food for people raised in Japan.

Cold ones from Lawsons, no. Not warming, and the rice is overcompacted and not fluffy like homemade onigiri. Its like the difference between good and bad baguettes or good and bad sourdough.

My father in laws organic potatoes cuz I love the skins. Bake crunchy mixed with butter and Japanese sour cream. BTW, not sure why or how but Japanese sour cream is far better than anything I can buy in the States.

I agree and I also grow my own potatoes and carrots do think the sour cream in Japan tastes way better than the states, so I make a great ranch dressing from it.
