My date was boasting about her professorship, her two houses in Tokyo and her place in LA, and I was wondering why she'd brought me to the crappiest Chinese joint I'd been to since my student days.
When I said betsu-betsu to the cashier after enduring her boastfest, she complained "I thought you'd be a gentleman and pay for me, too." No wonder she was loaded.
Timing & protection are tantamount. Not knowing when to pull out of your bad 1st date can be a mistake, with other possible, unforeseen & unexpected consequences down the road.
@Luddite, you hit the nail on the head. Especially about the phone. When a woman I dated for the first time pulled out her cell phone and started talking, and then excused herself to go to the ladies' room while still chatting, I signalled the waiter for the bill (a glass of wine each), paid and walked out before the woman exited the ladies' room. Never heard from her again.

Read your repost for the 2nd time today @samuriavunyl. Considering language barriers, seemed a legitimate question to avoid ANY mistake or misinterpretation. You seemed conscientious and obviously don’t want something getting lost in translation, or worse, hitting ‘off target’. - Looking forward to you posting in arrears.

Perhaps, and this is just a suggestion, it is the Editor that should preface and clarify exactly in the what ‘spirit’ the question is to be engage when answering. Guys, set expectations: go Dutch, or go broke.

Staying for breakfast?

Seriously, … letting their ‘causes, activism or politics’ enter ‘the conversation’. - Keep it ‘simple’, keep it ‘light’.

Don't keep calling her by the name of your first (or current) wife or your parole officer?

Perfect double entendre. Was it intentional?

Not listening.
Using your phone.
Expecting too much from the date.

All my "first dates" didn't work. The only thing that worked (too well, actually) was bringing a girl directly to my room.

based on recent happenings in Japan, dont wear your 13 million yen watch.

Hearing the words, “I”, “Me” and “For me,…” too much in the conversation.

Try not to lock your keys in the car, heard this from a friend . . .

Harry_Gatto: Perfect double entendre.
(I agree!)
Harry_Gatto: Was it intentional?
(Don't think so! Still funny!)

Not knowing your soap, deodorant and mouthwash well enough.

Staying friends after the date when they say "I care deeply about you, but not in that way." Curtain call, time to leave the friendship zone.

Don’t be too obvious but have an ‘exit strategy’, like that possible ‘Emergency’ call that may come from your friend in need, … or work.

If you sense something ‘fishy’ about them, trust your guts & politely get out.
With knowing more about them, you can always ‘give it another go’ IF the lay of the land improves.

1st date mistakes?
For the guys: having to chew your arm off to get out quietly.
For the ladies: the so-called ‘walk of shame’, wearing the same clothes to work the next day.
Ladies, forget those catty b’s at work. Hold your head up & walk in proudly. You had a date and they didn’t.(“See how it works, guys?” It’s not ‘a double-standard’ if we just take to time ‘empower’ women.)

I consider being late for the time of date should be avoid, though I've never had a date with anyone.

Do you mean ‘intails’ as in @9:27pm?

Waiting too long to "go to the washroom" before the waiter comes to ditch out. Once she orders you are toast for the rest of the evening.
