An interesting theoretical concept with many so far unseen ideas has been almost completely broken by extremely much wokeness and one-sided minorities oriented practical performances. The Montgolfière like balloon flame and Celine Dion with her great voice were quite some positively outstanding and such could finally save a lot.
These are difficult to do, with a need to appeal to a wide audience and an odd remit. As a result, they are often a mixed bag. There were enough good/interesting bits to enjoy, although it could have been a bit shorter. I suppose a sign of the times that the general public were kept away from the formal ceremony.
We liked it. A couple hours of surreality and weirdness....no idea why they chose to include a prelude to a multi-racial threesome at one point, good luck explaining that to your kids if you have them...but it least it was honest about the athletes camps! Hahaha!
Really enjoyed the imagery of the horse, and the Tower disco, but I already said that in the post about the parade....so, why do we have this thread??
I didn't watch the whole thing. I was actually curious and somewhat expectant concerning the fact that they were going to sail instead of walk, but in the end, the various countries just moved along, so I was less than impressed. I suppose the athletes were happy that they didn't have to waste energy walking around a field, but my wife pointed out that some of the countries sailed by in smaller boats and may have succumbed to sea sickness.
The silly pink dancers did nothing to enhance the show. Took away from it as far as I'm concerned.
All in all, I suppose I've learned my lesson. I won't be watching any more Olympics ever except what just happens to make it on the news, and even then it might be time for a bathroom break.
Disgusting. Degenerate. Boring. Self-Important. It exposed how little French culture and France itself actually influences anything of real value in the present day. Throw in some trans activism, outdated and imported superannuated "stars", cheap insults of Christianity, and a splash of rain and train terrorism, and voila, you have described Angry, Irrelevant Paris 2024 in a nutshell!
Celine Dion, the Canadian? Lady Gaga, the American? LOL. Wow, talk about retro "stars". How "French". Fail.
Didn’t watch. From highlights that I saw, it was par for the course for an organization as corrupt and degenerate as the IOC.
It’s comical that the IOC approved that ceremony and is now trying to digitally scrub evidence of it. They’ve apparently deleted the replay from the official website and have aggressively taken down footage from various news agencies around the world. The organizers approved the concept, saw the rehearsals, and didn’t bat an eye about going ahead with it. Were the IOC and Paris Olympics organizers really so aloof and degenerate that they thought the spectacle would be well received? Or are they intentionally trying to provoke cultural backlash?
The ideas are very progressing and fantastic. However, due to the performance stages being spread in the city and lots of performances are held at the same time, camera works look so busy. Therefore, we could not get the flow of the ceremony coherently.
Sounds like the religious nutters got upset with the drag queen Last Supper. Maybe don't completely exclude and terrorize every LGBT person, who happen to be big in the entertainment world, and you won't have your precious feelings hurt.
On Saturday, the organizers of the Paris Olympics scrambled to pressure social media platforms, such as X, to censor users who mocked and criticized Friday night's shocking Opening Ceremony. The event, which featured drag queens, nudity, and scenes deemed highly disrespectful to Christians, sparked outrage worldwide. When the International Olympic Committee's social media 1984-style censorship efforts failed (read: here), the committee had no choice but to apologize for the drag queen parody of Jesus' Last Supper on Sunday morning.
Organizers of the opening ceremony for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games have issued a non-apology apology for any offense “taken” by Christians from a drag queen parody of Jesus’ Last Supper.
“Clearly there was never an intention to show disrespect to any religious group,” declared Paris 2024 spokesperson Anne Descamps regarding the ceremony, which many — including the French bishops’ conference — have deemed a “mockery” of Christ’s Last Supper.
“The opening ceremony aimed to celebrate community tolerance,” she continued. “We believe this ambition was achieved. If people have taken any offense, we are of course really sorry.”
European Parliament member Marion Marechal blamed the offensive scene on France’s far-left minority, insisting that it did not represent the French people.
“To all the Christians of the world who are watching the #Paris2024 ceremony and felt insulted by this drag queen parody of the Last Supper, know that it is not France that is speaking but a left-wing minority ready for any provocation,” Marechal posted on X, along with the hashtag “#notinmyname.”
For his part, the leader of the Italian Liga party, Matteo Salvini, characterized the event as insulting and “sleazy.”
“Opening the Olympics by insulting billions of Christians around the world was a really bad start, dear French people. Sleazy,” Salvini wrote on X.
To illustrate just how reprehensible the drag-queen performance was, the video has already been memory-holed by the IOC & NBC, the official sponsors of the show.
"The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has deleted a video of the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Games in Paris from its YouTube channel. Committee officials faced massive global public backlash over an alleged LGBTQ-themed parody of ‘The Last Supper’ at the event, which was widely seen by Christians as blasphemous.
As of Sunday, the 26-minute video on the Olympics YouTube channel titled ‘LET THE GAMES BEGIN! | #Paris2024 Opening Ceremony Highlights’ is unavailable, with comments under the link closed. The same goes for a similar video on the YouTube channel of NBC Sports, the official broadcaster of the Games in the US. The IOC did not explain the reason for the move.
The apparent removal of the video came after numerous politicians, social media users, and influencers expressed outrage over a scene featuring a troupe of drag queens, homosexuals, and transsexuals posing at a table as Jesus Christ and his apostles appeared in Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’. "
It was unique, that's for sure. But not in a good way. It showed exactly what the decadence of the West means, that the woke agenda is in full motion. Not only that, but the bad taste of some of the scenes had nothing in common with the LGBT promotions. Bad taste is bad taste, despite the racial or sexual interest.
Why are trans entertainers doing doing a bad imitation of the last Supper?
It's pretty funny seeing all the ignorance, mostly from among the US right-wing nutters, wherein they incorrectly identify the colorful recreation of a French painting that depicts an ancient Greek celebration with an Italian painting that depicted a scene from the Bible.
To see them get so angry about something that isn't even the thing they're angry about is hilarious. It also says a lot not only about their lack of intelligence, but also the thin skin and easily triggered feelings they are always accusing others of having.

Music was good. I think as a one-off, no stadium was ok, but I don't see every host city being able to do that.
Pukey2
No idea. Didn't know it was on and wouldn't have bothered to watch it even if I'd known.

No interest, just want to see the games, saw a few highlights and was happy that I didn't waste my time.

Disgusting and very offensive if you are a Christian (which I am not). Shame on the IOC and France for allowing such a gross spectacle.

Sitting on a table with shoes on where food is served and people parading exposing themselves isn’t a good look for transgenders or straight people.
For Christians, the Last Supper is tied to the Sacrament which is the base of Christianity.
No respect and no dignity were on display in this deranged woke display.
