she got high.... who cares... the western world has lost the "Drug war"

500 hours community service going round every high school telling them the stupidity of doing meth and/or bcoming a yak. Then she has to come round and clean my house

Like I said in her other article, that is one messed up (to put it politely) family. Her mom died when she was 2. Her dad died when she was 12. She's a druggy. Her husband is a druggy and a loser. Her brother is in the Yakuza. The only real innocent person is her son. Unfortunately, he might also be messed up, but it won't be his fault. You be the judge!

As much I would like to say she should be spared a prison term because she has to raise a young son, but again, I guess she's not above the Law.....and shouldn't be.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Let's say, a plea bargain, $2000 bonds, and 500 hour community service. Is that a fair deal?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is a good example of Japanese law. In other countries she would have a set of charges with matching fines and/or jail term for the specific substance and amount thereof. However, in Japan it is anybody's guess. She could get anything from a thousand dollar fine to 10 years in the pen depending on which judge she gets and what kind of mood he/she is in at the time of sentencing. Also, as the details of this case are very unclear as to which substance and how much she had how could anybody speculate what punishment she should receive?

Hopefully (although I doubt it) her fate will be: resuling in the courts and society rethink Japan's ridiculous drug laws and penalties. For a place that loves to emulate the west, it is laughable that so much attention, money, and time are being wasted on a person in whose home 0.008 grams of speed was found. Oh the horror. Of course, this is Asia after all so perhaps she sould face the guillotine.

A dam good spanking.

One supposes that this question is applicable only if she is found guilty, if so then I agree with community service, perhaps a monthly anti drug commercial and a tour of high schools and universities speaking on the evils of breaking the law.

This is not such a simple question to answer. On one level you could say that all she deserves is a slap on the wrist combined with a good behavior bond/fines.

On another level, you could argue that this former poster child for everything good offers the powers-that-be a great opportunity to scare a lot of people straight. If this is the case, she might be looking at jail time (what a fall from grace).

Furthermore, there is also the issue of her child. At the current time, it looks like both her and her husband are going to be convicted. This leads to the question as to whether they represent fit and proper parents. If those in power really want to wind up the ante, they could seek to remove the child from her and her (soon to be ex-husband). Indeed, I would have not problems with this.

Finally, her career is effectively over. Up until now she has used here good looks (and not much else) to put forward the classic "girl next door"/"loving mother" image. Obviously, having a drug conviction is seriously at odds with such an image. As such, her popularity as a brand is going to go through the floor.

Perhaps she would have been better off hanging around in a certain Yamanashi forest, because people tend to forgive dead people for their "foibles."

Absolutely ridiculous to speculate on such a tiny amount. But drugs are drugs right? As we watch girls every day fall ill to alcohol abuse and date rape. Sure japan is "safer" than many place but most of the alcoholics around here don't realize they are. While it tears up their insides slowly and these girls start looking haggard..they all look down on this actress for basically the same thing. She should get counseling and maybe rehab. Then..leave her alone.

I'd be more than happy to "counsel" the lady if they send her around to my place...

Off with her head!

Sakai can go to Yamanshi and help the farmers with their work. Yamanashi farmers need a lot of help. It will cure Sakai's mind as well.

Now she has the image of "girl missing from next door / meth-loving mother."

Tried - and found guilty - by the Japanese media. Fuji TV announcers look reproachful and concerned. Case closed.

It was 0.008 grams, for Pete's sake, and then not even proven it was hers. A slap on the wrist, plus loss of face / reputation, and a long public repentance should suffice

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Same as anyone else. Having her do anti-drugs work would be a bit silly.

There's probably a law in Japan which will prescribe her fate. Further on, it is her character which will decide it. Is she to go to jail? Is she to stay with her husband? Is she to work in a convenience store to make her living? Is she to... What's there to discuss? Let's get it over with. There's a lot of people challenged by fate on a daily basis all over the world and we all struggle in our own little ways. Good luck Noripi!

I think she should be given a suspended sentence, but should have to spend at least 100 hours in counseling with her son. Any person who has been through a divorce, and these two seem headed for one, will tell you that counselors stress to never make the kids believe that both their parents are a@@holes -- that totally pulls the rug out from under them psychologically. Here we've got the husband ratting out the wife and the wife blaming the husband for getting her started. The court's one and only concern in sentencing her should be the well-being of the boy. And, since she has done a lot of the damage here, she should be held responsible for getting the boy the help he's likely to need. Sending her to jail is only going to make his situation worse.

how much is it really .008g ?? is n't that like pretty minute? and you get crucified by that?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well, now that she used the obligatory "a gaijin sold it to me" get out of responsibility card, my "sympathy" is out the door carried away by Typhoon #9. Seriously, does the "Gaijin sold me the drugs" excuse work in any other country on earth?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It was 0.008 grams, for Pete's sake, and then not even proven it was hers.

she admitted it was hers, dna match on the pipe. 0.008 grams was residue, as in remaining, leftover from a crazy high as a kite hitting the rock pipe freakout. you think you'd get light treatment if you were found with in Japan with 0.008 grams of meth? why should she?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yea, I just heard the gaijin gave me drug excuse. Now that I heard that, I have no sympathy for her at all. I hope she goes to jail. Getting tired of hearing that lame excuse. I know more Japanese pushers than "gaijin pushers".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah, this "the gaijin made me do it" thing is entirely out of hand. The fact that the average Japanese buys into it is all the more disturbing. Have you ever once heard somebody use the "the Yakuza sold it to me" excuse??? No, right?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She did no physical harm to no one, but herself. Just leave her be.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

With all this issues in society in general I wonder why she is the front page news? What are the special attributes of this person to make the news from all the other ppl who do get busted on drugs? There is something of a histeric magnitude of idol worshiping in Japan I still cannot grasp. If she is well connected to get on the media suddenly she is a great importance to us? How does her fate impact the quality of my life? Why should I follow news about her?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Give them one month of jail time, then put them into a drug rehabilitation program. Jail time dosen't cure the drug problems, usually drug rehab dose.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

they should just let her go so J-cops would be less embarrassed. There are more serious stories out there.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

send her to the gallows! and she claimed to have bought the drugs from a gaijin..yes, let's always use gaijins as the scapegoat.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

nobody really cares what happens to Noriko Sakai.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Nigerians are gaijins, Philipinos are gaijins, Chinese are gaijins, and the citizens of the other countries are also gaijins. If you check the link I gave earlier you can understand exactly how the drugs are supplied. She was right. Where she was hanging out with her husband is a where soe of these gaijins supply the drug. Sakai's suppliers should also be duly punished if the cops like it. But they will not do that because it is an arrangement.

Perhaps Japan should look back on its history. I remember reading somewhere of a daimyo that used to tattoo the kanji for dog into the forehead of those who traded/used opium. The possibility of having such a tattoo would scare a lot of people straight. It would also negatively impact Noripi's photogenic face. Indeed, she could reposition herself in the public's mind as a sort of Japanese Charlie Manson.

Most probably she became a star with the help of the Yakuza. So most probably she will return to stardom again with the help of the Yakuza.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think she should appear in an anti-drug poster together with her gaijin pusher. Let's see what he looks like, since there's so much talk about him.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

death by firing squad. or some time in rehab. whichever is more convenient for her.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A free trip to Amsterdam so she can smoke all the herb she wants and then a flight to Portugal so she can shoot up all the heroin she wants.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Should she take her 10 year old son along with her when she goes to Amsterdam and Portugal? Or maybe just leave him with the mistress of the husband.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Probation and some rehab if she needs it. I don't see the point in crucifying the woman.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She should get house arrest at my place for a time yet to be determined.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Let her out now and apologize for the brutal treatment and all the pain and suffering they have caused her!! Law was invented to stop people from doing wrong to each other. Who did she hurt? or caused inconvenience? I'm ashamed to be ruled with stupid laws like this. If there's no victim, there's no problem. She has been doing fine until police and media ruined her life. Drugs are not powerful enough to do that.

People know how to take care of themselves. Most people will quit drugs if they realize their lives are going down the drain. Only 1% ends up ruining their lives with drugs. And they probably didn't think it was precious from the beginning.

Because she's a celebrity she should have some sort of "batsu game" on tv ; like

(1) fall into a big tank of iced water, to really loud cyber-trance background music and canned laughter. (2) have to eat a chou cream with lots of wasabi in it, to really loud cyber-trance background music and canned laughter. (3) be locked in a glass box with a huge balloon that slowly fills up with water unless she can write some difficult kanji, to really loud cyber-trance background music and canned laughter. (4) have a painful Japanese foot massage, to really loud cyber-trance background music and canned laughter. (5) have loads of clothes pegs pegged to her face, to really loud cyber-trance background music and canned laughter.

They should also ensure that every word she says comes up in massive kanji on the screen.

This televised on every channel, non-stop for 24-hours.

You've got to love geinojin ...
