What do I think? I think they will use the atomic bombings of their cities to try and get sympathy to get the games. I can see into the future already that they will not get the games.
The simple lack of infrastructure in Nagasaki is enough to be excluded from the games. The "Nagasaki Airport" is far from Nagasaki -- in Omura. There are some hotels, but not nearly enough for an event like the Olympics.
As bamboohat and neverknow2 said, they're playing the victim and wanting sympathy to get the games. Give it to a developed city like Fukuoka. It is half-way between the two cities and has good infrastructure.
The guilt games? The self-pity games would be more appropriate. I get so sick of Japan whining about the attacks on the two cities. It's a great way for them to take away the focus on their own atrocities throughout the Pacific. As much as the dropping of the bombs was an atrocity in itself, the baka-majime Japanese had to be stopped.
I'm not sure how lack of infrastructure has anything to do with it, considering past locations of Olypmics as well. Hiroshima's and Nagasaki's rail system still dwarfs most major American cities.
Much infrastructure supporting games are usually built after the olympics have been approved.
As to what I think, I have no complaints about then wanting to host the Olympics, and my luck to them, it's away from Tokyo so it won't cause me any traffic jams.
I'd rather have the games in Nagasaki and Hiroshima, then some strane Olympic choices like Atlanta.
The IOC don't accept joint bids so there's no chance it will happen. The games are based on a city so they can have the "<cityname> <20XX>" marketing that goes along with it.
They're too far apart - there would have to be two Olympic villages, with Olympians either flying, taking the train or driving between cities - even greater carbon footprint.
I can see Tokyo and Osaka submitting a joint bid due to deeper pocket and larger population in these two metropolitan areas. Hiroshima and Nagasaski is too small of a city and too distant from each other and difficulty in transportation and accomadations.
Cheesy at best. Playing on emotions to get Olympics. Why is Japan so obsessed with the Olympics?
It would be a waste of resources and time for these two cities. Let's say they got 2020. Do they have the infrastructure to support it? If they build new ones, what will they do with them after Olympics is gone? Pfftt.
Dunno. Maybe J-government needs such a cause to spend more money on construction projects and jolt the economy.
there is more chance of dwarf throwing being part of the olympics than any of these cities (especially as a joint application) getting it. The IOC will get sick and tired of the poor us guilt trip that would be used in the slogans.
Hiroshima held the Asian Games back in the early '90s. We got lots of new infrastructure from that. I hope we do win the bid (but at the same time think the sun will burn out before that happens...).

I look forward to the USA team trying to hold their heads up at an opening ceremony in either city... USA shame will ensure niether bid is succssful.

"The Guilt Games"?

Why not? They're well away from Tokyo, the building boom and extra tourism would help the local economy.
People who don't like the idea of competing in a place their great-grandfathers bombed to a cinder could always wait until the next games.
After Hiroshima & Nagasaki, we could have the Dresden Games, the Pearl Harbor Games, ...

ishihara has poisoned any J-Olympic bids for years to come, for get it
Sarge
I don't believe they have consulted with Ishihara on this...

It is a very nice idea,an unworkable idea but a nice nonetheless.
Neither of these cities have the clout or the prestige to actually push this through.

I recommend Yamagata and Akita Prefectures, two of my favorites for the hosting of the 2020 Olympics!

Hiroshima and nagasaki are boring places to visit, so.... The olimpics idea is a bad idea, also olimpics are boring too!!!

The world may accept that bid in the next century. Wouldn't bother me now but there aren't enough like minded individuals to support it probably.

Too political.

Ridiculous. no facilities, poor travel links, Japan doesn't deserve them again so soon

I wish TOkyo try again instead of Hiroshima. 2020 can be for Tokyo if not Africa.
