I'm seeing more individuality...

Hotpants and short skirts even in the winter, whats NOT to like

the ponchos have GOT TO GO.........

It's basically the same as last winter - blue denim shorts with black tights seems to be predominant. I have seen older women with that style, too, but it doesn't look quite as good on them as it does on the younger girls.

Japanese fashion totally sucks, both in the winter and all year long. There are so many people in Japan that say that Japanese are very fashionable people. Yes, they are very fashionable, but their fashion does not match at all. They all wear weird colors with weird clothes. To me, it looks like they are all trying to be like an anime character with no fashion sense at all.

Ditto. And everyone not wearing that combo is wearing some outfit of black or brown. Japanese "fashion" is very predictable, particularly in the winter.

Less is more.

Most of them are hote no matter what they weare.

So convenient, you just need a pair of shorts which you can wear all year round and match it up to your fantasy. The same goes with the dress, wear it over tights, jeans or a pantyhose and you can have different fashion styles in no time. The best thing this winter are those socks you can wear over your boots, they really give a good kick to your old boots. My 70 year old mother was visiting and she was surprised at how many great styles they sell for women of her age. She bought tons. She said that the fashion style in Europe is so boring this winter, only black and white everywhere whilst it is so colourful here in Japan.

J-Fashion rocks! us men love it!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Pretty boring, IMO. But than I live in a more rural area.

They should wear more of the suit that is always in fashion = Birthday suit.

As the saying goes: it does not matter what they are wearing they are not prostitutes!!! :0

smartacus, combinibento : What??? I guess you don't keep up with women's fashion much, because all of the young women are wearing fur (or fake fur) this year. It's called "yaju-kei" or "beast" fashion. Haven't you noticed the fur-covered boots, tails, long furry scarf-thing with mittons and a hood? Not to mention fur coats. PETA would have a cow if they came to Tokyo this year. Don't get out much in Tokyo, do you?

The whole "yama girl" mountain miniskirt thing is absurd.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah, saw this fur look thing in shibuya....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Far too much fur.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yummy. Yes poor colour coordination and strange combinations. but still strangely sexy. Boots, short skirts, stylish tops..... what's not to like?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Whatever else they wear does not matter. As long as they keep wearing those black tights! Zowie!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

They're going fur broke, Cleo.

I like some fur on my women. :)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yup. Basically the same as last year, it seems to me. Although I don't follow fashion trends at all myself. Could do without the fur and more colour would be nice.

But does the fur match the carpet?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's usually puzzling and not very practical/functional, and the usual bizarre shoes in which they walk ungracefully, ruin everything. That's very generally speaking, oc. They mix styles, making for busy looking, costume-like ensembles. The funny thing is that they appear to follow magazine trends, item for item, instead of incorporating a touch of their own. So although there is diversity, it is also boring for lack of personality.

Ladies here look better in winter as they don't have the best bodies, but they dress up nicely and put in a good show. I also like fur, but the fur on boots which is kind of wrapped around is not to my liking and looks a bit cheap. There are some nice stockings/tights at the moment. Sheer colour which present the legs nicely. I like some of the down jackets they are wearing which have a kind of rubbery appearance. There seem to be fewer cashmere coats this year, perhaps because of the downturn. This is a shame as they always look elegant.

Overall, it's not the best winter, but winter is generally the better time for ladies fashion in Japan, in my opinion.

Japanese women don`t have nice bodies??? What do you prefer? The triple size rumps of North American women? Get real.

Richard_III:"Ladies here look better in winter as they don't have the best bodies"

I don't now where "here" is in your case but after 19+ years in Japan and having lived in NA, Europe and other Asian countries, I can state that this comment maid by a friend that recently returned to the USA is quite factual: " In Japan 90% of the women are either beautiful or at least cute and in the west it is more the exception and perhaps 10% are well dressed and of a reasonable look and weight"

As for fashion like everywhere their are those who know how to accentuate their good features and hide what is not so flattering and in Japan that would be the majority of women and then their are those with zero fashion sense that think just because they are wearing a "brand" product they must look good (wrong!).

Yes many here have not learned to walk correctly in high heels but the majority do just fine and look real good in them.

As for the Fur bring it on, love the look and love fur I was brought up in a fur society and I have to admit the Japanese ladies take first prize in looking great it it!

The big difference between Japanese ladies and the west is that they are not ashamed of dressing like women, back home the women dress more masculine than I do, not very appealing if you ask me.

Sometimes I think they're not dressing for themselves, to please themselves. They certainly don't look comfortable in certain outfits they choose to wear.

Fur + legging = very nice, IMO. It's a look younger and older women can all pull off and it looks great in the winter.

@Rich III, you're probably a woman or a man that has a fetish for... @cleo, thanks for the chuckle, got my dirty mind smiling Was in Nag stn yesterday and wow! I wish it's like this at every station though...

What always amazes me is that even for the most revealing, tight, thigh-boots and micro-mini stuff they wear, if you get to know them you find that this is done because it is "kawaii". Not because of any of the things that, I venture to guess, the majority of us men that see them are thinking. It reminds me of how chickens in the barnyard are thinking "pecking up a bug right about now would be fine", while the rest of us see only fried chicken with mashed potatoes.

Mini skirts are hot, but I am tired of the black stocking.

luv those maid uniform in the dead of Winter...............kawaiiiiiii

0 ( +0 / -0 )

as long as they wear nothing underneath the poncho, the poncho can stay

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@badmigraine, nice one! It took me 6 years to believe them on that point. And then i realized, when I shop for clothes, I never think of buying a shirt for others. I buy it if i think it looks good on me (but subconsciously I wanna look good for them) now im confusing my self LOL

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Let's not confuse thin with "good looking". Anyway, as we know japan places a premium on appearance so the girls dress as best they can to emphasize their strong points and hide their weaknesses. 90%? you'd have to have a fetish to believe that.

Love the shapely legs!

Two thumbs up for the perennial Magic Boots, which make even plain birds worth an ogle from the waist down.

Although there was one in Kita Senju last night who should have been arrested on a charge of Impersonating An Attractive Bird. I felt quite cheated when she turned round.

@IvanCoughalot LOL, been there, seen it!

The question is about J-women winter fashion style. I see 'Patrick Smash' is doomed!!
