Take a bunch of people trained to drive at speed and miss red lights. Add a portion of people wandering around the streets glued to their cellphones not watching where they are going. Mix well.....

Life is boring, and Pokemon Go and other games are a way to escape it. It is the opiate of the masses.

It is a fad and fads attract attention and followers. It will likely have blown over in a year or so.

sensei258JUL. 18, 2016 - 10:54AM JST 99% of the population do not like to go outside. You don't go to the beach during the summer, do you?

LOL, excellent response. There are septuagenarians on most hiking trails who could give the average sneering western commentator half their age a run for their money.

As for Pokemon Go, I've never played a Pokemon game, but by the looks of things a big part of the attraction is the exploration element. I don't get it myself, but there's nothing wrong with it. You have to feel sorry for people whose lives are apparently so empty they feel the compulsion to look down their nose at folks who are having fun and doing no harm to anyone else.

It's Augmented Reality. It's popular among those who have trouble dealing with Real Reality.

Do not think it will go over well in the Land of Cement known as Japan. 99% of the population do not like to go outside.

getting people outside and amongst nature, making people exercise

Been hearing this gem for a few days now. Funny how these quivering rolls of jelly never heard ideas like "sports", "outdoor hobbies" or "open the door and go outside for a much-needed walk" before.
