Who do you think the Japanese government would prefer to win the U.S. presidential election on Tuesday: Incumbent Donald Trump or challenger Joe Biden?

Trump is headed to prison. Having served for 70 sessions in 24 months on a federal criminal grand jury, I assure you there is sufficient evidence for indictment, prosecution, and imprisonment of Donald Trump.

If Trump is elected, I'm pretty sure most of the world will say 'well, America's done', and start negotiating everything to bypass America except when absolutely necessary.

I'm curious as to which countries are going to "bypass" the most influential country with the biggest economy in the world?

Didn't really think that one through, I gather...

I'm not really into US politics but my honest opinion as a JP citizen and the one of all my JP friends, is the same: Trump is better for Japan. I think the government prefers him, too.

Really? Is that a question?

The only countries that want Trump reelected are the countries with leaders wishing for the downfall of the US; Putin, Xi, and the Mullahs...

All the others think he's a blustering old fool - a clown in a dark blue suit - a mentally ill idiot killing his own people...

Which is what he is....and a one-term President....

My Japanese friends all say they would much rather have Trump as President because he's a real leader with the b***s to stand up to China.

This probably says most about one’s circle of friends than anything else.

Recently NHK had a piece that said only 1 in 10 Japanese supported or thought a second at rump term would be good.

Personally I have to disagree with NHK on this because of all the people I’ve spoken to about Trump, and this includes friends, acquaintances, business associates, and their friends, not a single person thought a second Trump term was good. A few had no opinion, but those that did ALL thought the US would be crazy to vote Trump for another term.

The thing with Biden, he won’t be President for long and he would never finish a first term and then Kamala would be President and that woman is way out of her league, they steamrolled over Joe and Obama and they’ll laugh and make mincemeat out of the woman, there is No way she could handle them or geopolitical politics and the Japanese know this deeply.

How do you know this?

Many people world wide believe, incl the states and incl republicans, that real estate developer, pageant king and reality tv "tarento" Trump is way, way out of his league.

Harris's history would indicate that she has plenty of Brains and Firepower to not flinch at threats from the baddies.

Trump on the other hand has taken a leaf from his Christian beliefs "Love thy enemies".

*My Japanese friends all say they would much rather have Trump as President because he's a real leader with the b**s to stand up to China.

We must move in very different circles. Literally not a single one of my Japanese friends have a good word for Trump and not one of them want him to win this election. They see him as dangerous bully and consider it an embarrassment to have the Japanese PM sucking up to him.

He can't be gone soon enough.

The Japanese I know don’t like Trump's crude mannerism and lack of class. They call him the burger president.

thats strange. My Japanese friends all say they would much rather have Trump as President because he's a real leader with the b***s to stand up to China.

Theres no question Japan wants the safety of a Trump 2nd term.

John Bolton is the absolute last person to talk about damage control to anyone.

Nope. Trump is. Bolton is well up there though.

Nippon Kaigi loves Trump.

I agree. Because all of a sudden, it makes the stupidity, incompetance and racism of the LDP and NK seem mainstream and OK

John Bolton is the absolute last person to talk about damage control to anyone.

I think for the past few years, the world has dealt with the Loser in Chief, and trying not to give up hope, that America would regain some degree of sanity in four years.

If Trump is elected, I'm pretty sure most of the world will say 'well, America's done', and start negotiating everything to bypass America except when absolutely necessary.

The Japanese I know don’t like Trump's crude mannerism and lack of class.

Many, but there are many that I know that respect that he’s a strong leader and that in the end helps make the Japanese feel safe and secure.

They call him the burger president.

Burgers are delicious! He probably makes a mean burger too.

zichi - more insanity. No one cares.

ah so - Unpopularity in foreign countries is a badge of honor. why should Americans care what other countries think of the President? He works for Americans, not them.

Obama was very popular with just about every other country because he let them walk all over the US.

The problem with Trump is he more about a personality cult than policy debate.

His policy especially on the economy was the strongest that’s why he beats Biden hands over fist when it comes to the economy.

He gets an idea in his head and that becomes his policy.

As in every administration, that’s why they all have so many executive orders.

Like separating children from parents of illegal immigrants.

As was done in the last administration that also made the cages, if Trump can inherit the economy from Obama supposedly, he can also inherit the idea of building cages to house these kids.

There are more than 500 children and the authorities have no idea where their parents are.

That’s not Trump’s fault, as a parent, I would never, ever send my kids anywhere especially to another country without me, I get the desperation, but that is just inconceivable as well as irresponsible.

Let's see what Japanese people think:

In Japan, just one in 10 people believe a second term for US President Donald Trump would be positive for Japan, according to a new poll of 3,600 people conducted by national broadcaster NHK.

Oh dear.

“Trump does not come across as being reliable,” Nakano said. “He is also seen as a president who has been unusually unkind to Japan. He has made repeated demands on trade and security issues and does not appear to consider Tokyo’s position in talks with China or North Korea, for example.”

Definitely few friends in Japan.

But let's face it, hardly anyone likes him.

Japan just loved Obama, warm and friendly. Trump is an odd ball character for the Japanese. Trump claims to have the military vote but he has mostly lost that. Trump wants to charge more for the US military bases here. It wasn't that long ago when Trump claimed President Xi was his new best friend and Kim Jong Un too.

literally all of this is false.

Japan just loved Obama,

But he gone now.

Trump is an odd ball character for the Japanese.

He is, but many Japanese definitely see Trump as a No crap taker and unapologetic especially when it comes to China and our adversaries, that they do respect.

Trump claims to have the military vote but he has mostly lost that.

No, he did not, he lost a lot with the leadership, the same people that no surprisingly want to stay indefinitely in these continuous wars and that’s why he’s a rockstar with the veterans and everyone else that wants out of these countries.

A bit cloudy.

Coincidence! Its kinda cloudy here too!

They will support Trump who holds China's feet to the fire and not Biden, who is literally owned by China.

Except when he begging Xi to help him get re-elected, praising Xi's handling of the virus, telling Xi that imprisoning a million Uighurs is exactly the right thing to do and allowing China to dominate the South China Sea.

Trump grabs his ankles for Xi, Kim and any other tinpot leader and Japan knows it

President Biden will most likely uphold the miltiary occupation in the country.

We're under occupation?

NOW I understand why I've been going through all those checkpoints, being asked for my papers recently...

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

The choice is obvious. They will support Trump who holds China's feet to the fire and not Biden, who is literally owned by China.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

Definitely Trump. One thing Japan has always felt safe with historically is with a Republican President and Trump being the unpredictable outsider he is, they don’t want someone that will capitulate they know China will be more cautious in the region and globally if Trump is in office. Biden like most Democrats would not put a priority in making sure our military has the latest hardware and is up to date when it comes to dealing with an adversary such as China.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

I imagine it doesn't make a difference to regular Japanese. President Biden will most likely uphold the miltiary occupation in the country.

I hope I'm wrong about that, but I don't think he will do too much to change the status quo.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

They don’t care. There’s not going to be much difference even if Biden wins. IF he wins. That’s a big if. Back in 2016 the Japanese government was like “same s*** different President”. Same thing now.
