Why are so many people rude in cyberspace?

Obviously, no consequences

Cyberspace brings out a person's true nature. Whereas we all put on a face at work, home or wherever, when we sit in front of a computer in the anonymous world of cyberspace, then our true nature surfaces.

What an appropriate thread. The basic anonymity of the internet allows those frustrated, sick, and unhappy souls to vent out their inadequacies online. It gives them a sense of superiority that they would never achieve in real life.

It allows a person, for instance a non Japanese to make sure they are the first to post on a subject evrey day of the year, and to be rude about Japans neighboring countries.

These rude cyber fools are so pathetic, but it gives me a giggle, about how shallow they are. Heh heh.

Yes, but on that rare occasion, that person wakes up a little bit too late and is the third person to make a post. A person who also goes on and on about Japan as if he or she were an expert but has never even been here. And a person who sometimes does write the truth:

Some people are naturally rude, and the cover of anonymity removes the final check that stops them being rude in their 'real' lives.

In some ways, you can learn more about a person's true character from reading what s/he writes on JT than by having a face-to-face conversation with them.

On the contrary, the web allows smart people the only chance to be truthful to stupid people who so desperately need to hear it.

People always portray the internet as a place for hate-filled loners to vent their rage, but it's also one of the only places people in the macho world of investment banking or pro sports can express their compassionate, feminine side without fear of being laughed at.

Why are so many people rude in cyberspace?

Because they can be, and get away with it. It presents a stage to be heard, where most people are starved of any platform whatsoever. The funny thing is, the belief is that many people are reading and taking in the views written, but mostly it is the same few people (much less than a hundred here) that bite the bait and lure each other into arguments. I'd say that it is like the old chaps you get in the corner of a pub who wind each other each each night because they have nothing better to do, however, those old chaps are a lot less aggressive because of the physical presence, which holds people back (not through fear of being whacked, just through an inbuilt sense of respect for others). Take away that physical presence and we all go a bit crazy.

There always seems to be a lot of hate here, but I'm guessing it has more to do with wanting to create a storm rather than genuine ill feeling. wow, if the latter, humans are in danger if extinction!

Cyberspace people are not rude, may be some on unmoderated countless websites in cyber info highway. This is reality,we should come off the carefully censored tabloid paper media to enter the diverse world of various views of cyber people.

Some of the views may be rude,it is expected.

If you find rude views on JT,just skip the article or inform moderator to remove post.

Even in real life,not everyone you meet going to be not rude.

Moderators will remove posts on JT,if you are rude on JT,you do not have to worry too much about rudeness in JT.

Many JT readers have censored enough to know how not to be rude/off topic.

Most people on JT are not rude, may be over passionate about politics. Political discussions is not rude,it way forward for people in many ways.

Could be a reflection of their frustration with life on the trains.

People would be far less rude if JT did not put trolls onto this board. I have my suspicions as to who they are.

Everyone speaks their mind in cyberspace because no one is showing their faces. Like me, I can't see myself being so critical on news subjects in real life! ^^

So many people are rude in cyberspace. What a generalization. How many people? the Majority? More than in real life? more rude than drivers? how do you define rude? disagreeable? I would say that becasue you have to actaully seek out message boards, they aren't there in public in your daily life, you actaully choose to go there, therefore you choose to read content, AND becasue you can't really know anyone well enough to really insult them, AND comments posted, read don't occur in real time, it would follow that it is IMPOSSIBLE to be rude on cyberspace.

I think the more important question is people being rude in real life, and not a silly "why are people rude" but "how to deal with them appropriately without lowering your own mood" type of question.

Maybe one of the reasons is that verbal violence is the last resource for state an opinion. Is very common that if we cant think something inteligent to say, in place of just stay quiet, we say something rude. Im happy that we can discuse controversial topics in an anonimous way. But is disapointing when the thread end looking like Trash TV.

Because it's not real. It's just the internet, and discussion forums are a great place to have fun with other users, who take everything so seriously and get all worked up.

I stay outa cyberspace. I have acrophobia.

Cause it is so easy to fool computers and the people behind them.

People in general are rude, when the format for interaction is annonymous it just gets taken to a higher level.

How should we know the answer to this stupid question? The nerve of some of these questions!!

Why do games like the Simms make it so big? Why do massive multi player online games do so well? Why do people have 10 handles on one web site blog?

The answer isnt black and white.

Some people feel they can be anything they want when they are behind the keyboard.

Some use the internet to feel empowered and in real life wouldnt even squeak at all around others, but on the internet they can pump their chest and be rude to others.

Some people are looking for conversation with like minded people and only option for them because of location they live in is the internet.

Some people are without a social life and find the internet a haven for them to be a social elitist.

I dont think its a window into someones true personality, more like a window into what someone wants to be.

I dont think people are more rude on the internet, I think its harder to express your views in written word then it is in verbal ways, so some people get frustrated and then get more aggresive..

All in all the internet is just on piece of the puzzle that is changing humans from a truely social creature to a reclusive creature and is going to create more issues as the next generations become less connected to reality......

in my cyberspace life, sadly, i DO find more and more rude ppl. mostly online gaming and commentors on YouT(not sure if i can say their name in context here or not)

Sure dont want to see humanity go "matrix" on itself.

Because schools do not teach them manners before teaching them how to read and write...Or they simply think: rude is fun.

It's like being homeless--only a relative handful of people are chronically rude or homeless. It may look like a lot of people, but most of them are just passing through and will eventually move on.
