Why do you think Christmas decorations and illumination displays are put up so early in Japan?

Japan's retail and entertainment sectors love Christmas - it brings people out to spend lots of money. The longer businesses can milk the event, the more money they make.

Christmas in Japan is one big commercial event.

nothing culturally related,Christmas here have nothing to do with religion whatsoever.

business needs to sell-this is why so called "Christmas sale "starts early here.

its all about money, profit and greed.

Christmas in many Western countries is one big commercial event that begins in October.

Since they all come down on Christmas Day to make way for the traditional New Year decorations, might as well let the Christmas sparkles bring a bit of delight into the eyes of the Children.

I never understood why the Japanese make such a fuss about an event they don’t celebrate (beyond eating KFC), but New Year decorations get only a week or so.

There's no Thanksgiving holiday like in the U.S. That's the main reason. If the U.S. didn't have a Thanksgiving, the Christmas decorations would probably go up just as early. Pure commercialism.

I don't know if it is that early in Japan compared to many other countries. Shops in Europe are early with Christmas decorations as well.

Just click-baiting, Japan is no different to most other countries in this respect.

To sell more products.

It’s got as bad in the shops here as well, right after Bonfire night the Christmas products appear, and more and more it’s after Halloween now. At least the decorations generally don’t go up quite so early. Christmas has become just a marketing exercise here as well.

As mentioned above, no thanksgiving here. It’s like how day after Mother’s day Father’s day display goes up back in the states. Also, they have to put it up eventually so why not do it as early as possible to make the most out of it to start selling seasonal things early? People will buy early, but the day after is when all goes to trash (I’ve personally have never seen decorations get recycled the following year in Japan, every year is newly themed).

Many reasons, but the most practical is that it is easier and safer than when it gets colder.

Not sure why, but I wish it would stop (not just in Japan but everywhere it is happening).

I get mad because I really love Christmas and there is a mood/emotional feel that goes along with it which is partly dependent on it being something that only happens at a certain time of the year and for a limited period.

When I was in a kid Christmas decorations and Christmas songs were things that only went up in December and the holiday season, including new year, maybe lasted about 3-4 weeks max. That was perfect. When you saw the first decorations and heard the songs for the first time you knew the big day was just around the corner and you could get excited about it. It was also long enough that you could enjoy it without it being something that came and went too quickly.

But these days.....when you start seeing that same stuff as early as late October it just kind of loses all meaning. The emotional impact of hearing that first Christmas song is just lost completely. When I walk into a mall or something and hear Christmas songs in October or November I just want to block my ears and yell "TOO EARLY, STOP RUINING IT"!

I have started day dreaming about Xmas dinner just last week without any prompting of Xmas.

To replace Halloween decorations.

Because as with many appropriate holidays and festivals here, they have no idea of the meaning and/or history, but want to maximize on the commercial elements. Also, it's not really that it's so early (with exceptions... some shops or places like USJ will start up immediately after Hallowe'en), but that the US waits until after their Thanksgiving at the end of November (fourth Thursday). Some other countries begin sooner.

I really don't want to hear Xmas songs from early November.

The streaming media are already full of Christmas movies. Damn.
