Because Obama does not like them.

Because China would not be able to comply to various ageements that goes against their own interest.

Obviously its because this is meant to be a counter to China's economic rise. We are in something of an economic cold war with China right now, strange as it is, what with trading with the enemy and building factories in their territory.

Gee, I don't know. Maybe because the purpose is to freeze China economically from the Pacific region (which it won't).

Because China only does things in China's interest. You should see the FTA between China & Australia - quite unbelievable. Talk about a one-way street!

Because China did not want to join. Both USA and Japan said hoped China would join.

Because China took one long look at it and said "do I look stupid?"

@Triring: You have the best answer so far. China's has only a token interest in environmental or safety regulations, worker's rights, international competition, etc. etc.

China can still deal with member of the TPP and members of the TPP can deal with China. If China want in on, say, any of Japans Arg imports like rice or sugar will have to stand in line waiting a very long time before a increase in import quota is considered. If China floated the yuen on the internation money market China would off been a main player in the TPP.
