have your say

With so much media coverage of the coronavirus and medical professionals and governments sometimes giving conflicting advice, what advice would you give to people suffering anxiety and depression? What are you doing in your daily life to get through this crisis?

Stop relying on other people to think for you. Stop blindly following rules. Use common sense. Realize that Life in itself is risky and no one is going get out of it alive. Finally, remember that it’s YOUR life and not the governments’.

It is almost impossible to argue that people should take pandemic precautions for the "greater good" when the Olympics are being held - it's nothing more than a big party for elite athletes, foreigners and a few well-connected people.

The priority should be giving normal life back to the everyday people, so they can go out and play sports, socialise among other things.

Don't worry! Worrying doesn't help and avoid FUD as much as possible!

Kyoto/ Bamboo forest? Be careful of the train tracks there, it’s ended at least 2 careers.

Maybe ShinkansenCaboose could go on a 10km walk in the forest. I don’t know if he’d hear any ambulance sirens.

I try to communicate with God as often as I can. I tell my worries and He makes my anxiety easier and helps me see sth good in any kind of a day.

Gin and tonic! (In moderation) ;)

follow the science and avoid the media. If you must then read newspapers; reading actively involves the brain, tv/computers just wash over you without triggering the critical facilities, why it is referred to as electronic Soma.

Get out in to nature, activity is beneficial as are natural environments. Swimming has been shown to give more of a boost than other activities (though no one knows why yet).

Find a way to laugh.

How funny is this?

Actually, antidepressants appear to be quite effective against Covid-19. Really!

There are many of them with different modes of action. Which are you referring to?

Fluvoxamine is the one I can remember, but there are others...

Completely ignore the Corona BS - breath freely (without a mask), meet with friends and talk to other ppl. There are quite a few bars open, there are thousands of ppl on the beaches.

...much higher than from the vaccines, but antivaxxer groups love to lie about it to deceive people into rejecting safe and effective vaccines.

There have been more deaths and adverse reactions so far (actually a couple of months ago already) from the corona vaxes than from all other vaxes combined over 3 decades!

Which is explained easily by vigilance and the sheer number of inoculations done in a short time.

Since the deaths and important adverse reactions are still in the same rates for unvaccinated people that still makes them irrelevant, unless you somehow think that vaccines magically make unvaccinated people die and get negative side effects, something that obviously makes no sense.

There are many pro-vax experts who are seriously concerned with these vaxes.

But strangely when asked for proof you keep bringing only videos from people speaking from a complete lack of evidence instead of proper scientific reports, not to talk about the scientific and moral reputation of the "experts" you keep linking to.

What my wife and I do is travel. We travel every 5 weeks or so for 5 days at a time. Great time to travel. Nobody doing it.

Do you pick up the regional goods like Pocky and eat it on the train?

We had another poster who travelled like you. He was a big Pocky fan.

Our friend blvtzpk told us about Okazaki Shrine but no real rabbits or, surfing in Kyoto either.

Sorry, I offended some of you. Questions were put forward about advice, so I put some ideas forward.

Pocky are those chocolate sticks that snack girls used to put on ice and charge a fortune for. Quite messy in the summer I would think.

Never saw train tracks in the bamboo forest. There are guys hustling to take you on two-wheel carriages. Strong men.

That forrest is not 10km long. Rather a short walk. Ambulances are probably available for that with heat stroke I assume.

Some of you write weird responses.

@Zichi: I didn't look at it from the perspective of working people and those with kids. I guess I was blindsided by selfishness, but thanks for wishing us nice travels. Hope you can do the same.

Listen to the experts, specially official information given by medical organizations, and distrust anything that comes solely from videos and rogue "scientists" that contradict the scientific community based on no data. This surprisingly will result in quite homogeneous information that is much more likely to be correct.

The sheer number of vaccinations! Seriously? So more covid vaccinations in a few months than 30 years of all other vaccinations combined.

why are you going to quote something and then ignore it just because it proves you wrong, read again what you quoted and try to find the half that you inexplicably left out.

Except that they are not the same rates as the unvaccinated. I already demonstrated this with Bell's Palsy, how regulators "concluded" they were unrelated but careful investigation of the numbers showed the vaccine caused a 3-7 fold increase in chance of developing Bell's Palsy.

You have done no such thing.

Also, it would not make any logical sense, unless all other vaxes over 3 decades somehow prevented adverse reactions.

Except again for the very pertinent part of the comment that proved your mistake, and also obviously the kind of population that was predominantly vaccinated against COVID, your argument is like saying that adult diapers are much more "dangerous" because more deaths are reported on users in a single year than decades of users of infant diapers.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety/adverse-events.html

Millions of people in the United States have received COVID-19 vaccines under the most intense safety monitoring in U.S. history.

First off, admit you are on your own. Get the inoculations if you can. If you can't be patient but persistent. Meanwhile, make your home your fortress. Stock up on food, liquids and masks. It would be good to have a significant other. Second best it to have a wise best friend. Absolutely, do not eat or drink outside your home.

Follow the news but with a degree of skepticism. Same goes for politicians and the Olympic barons.

If isolation is a problem get on the Internet. Facebook is a fairly safe outlet.

Trust that this madness will pass.

Focus on improving your health and immune system, and get on with your life.

Realize that if you're healthy, the survival rate is very high and there is very little to worry about.

Realize that vaccines are not risk-free, weigh the pros and cons yourself and tell whoever is trying to pressure you one way or the other to go away...

Mainstream sources of information are heavily controlled and agenda-driven, look for information from alternative sources you trust...

For any source of information (MSM, peer-reviewed study, Fauci, discussion forum ...), look for any possible conflicts of interest.

See a doctor for antidepressants if that doesn't work.

Actually, antidepressants appear to be quite effective against Covid-19. Really!

If you have Covid-19 and your doctor won't give you ivermectin or HCQ+azithromycin, just say you're very sad...

Vote the irresponsible government out of power would be a start!

I find it so weird that most of us were vaccinated as kids for a variety of things like smallpox, and we blindly take drugs from doctors without any idea how they work in our body, but for political reasons some people are against the coronavirus vaccine.

It's not political. The corona vaxes are not like other vaxes. There have been more deaths and adverse reactions so far (actually a couple of months ago already) from the corona vaxes than from all other vaxes combined over 3 decades! It takes away any stress which we do not have but am sure others do. Restaurants and venues are absolutely the bomb fabulous.

You can see Japan as if you are in a tourist guidebook with nobody in sight at any venues in general. That famous Bamboo Forest in Kyoto...if you know of it is usually packed. Not one person in sight.

I recommend people get out there and see the world.
