To copy one of the best lines, in my opinion, from any movie; "So it begins!"

I only have one thing to say about this article, "Sodane!"

I remember when this was becoming a buzzword, and they were showing grown salarymen using the word on the news. To me, that phrase should have died right there. Picture adults in suits trying to use Bae and Lit or AF in sentences while 'dabbing', thats how cringey it looked.

"cringey" should die right here too.

My personal 'buzz word' is, "Dakara nanda!" (So what!), which seems quite fitting for this article.

Wow, not even "Hyokkorihan"?

Lame. And it's not "a word", it's a phrase or expression.

Apparently it is standard Japanese in Hokkaido dialect and the north of Japan. Since they were discussing their next move in the curling competition, picked up so clearly on the speaker, it was a phrase of agreement, like, yes, yes, that's a good idea, mmm... yeah that's right, ok, let's do that, yes, OK, right....
But it was also something about the lilting northern tone to it, a sort of musical agreement, that somehow brought the players, and their audience, and the whole of Japan, and the gold medal together.
It was this light touch that seems to have tickled the nation's fancy.
I can hear some of you going "Nanda!"

Even a movie is already made back in 2015 with that title That's It! (Soredake) By Gakuryu Ishii.

Must be a slow year for words.

In my opinion, curling broadcasts in Japan are just an excuse for people to letch over, or at least non-sexually idolize, girl next door types.
NHK apparent got complaints because they would turn the live coverage off during the snack time during the matches. Anyone wanting to see sportspeople eating snacks is not tuning in for the sport.
This elevation of "sodane" also strikes me as the result of people idolizing the team. I use the word idolize because this level of attention is unjustified and has creepy undertones.
