¥5 million reward offered to anyone who can find a missing dog in Tokyo

Usually, when we talk about someone’s pet being precious, we’re talking about the emotional bond they feel with their beloved animal companion. However, one terrier somewhere in Japan is precious in the same way that precious metals are, in that the dog is extremely valuable in an economic sense.

On the morning of Dec 28, Japanese Twitter user @keu_t8 went to Yoyogi Park in Tokyo, taking four pet dogs for a walk through the urban oasis of greenery. Unfortunately, while at the park the collar of @keu_t8’s Yorkshire terrier Akubi came undone from the leash, and the dog ran off and out of sight.

@keu_t8 has spent the past week looking for Akubi, but to no avail, and is now asking other Twitter users to join the search.

It’s not just @keu_t8’s gratitude one can earn by finding Akubi, though, but also a sizeable reward. The distraught owner is also offering a reward of five million yen to anyone who finds the terrier. In addition, @keu_t8 is offering one million yen to anyone who can provide information that will allow the owner to find Akubi.

According to @keu_t8’s description, Akubi is a one-year-old male, slightly large for his breed, at about three kilograms, and has shorter hair on his rear left leg than his other limbs, since they had to trim Akubi’s hair there recently after he got poo smeared on it. Though the photos show Akubi wearing a ribbon, @keu_t8 says the animal wasn’t wearing the accessory when it ran off. @keu_t8 also says that Akubi is friendly, and will respond to being called by name or its nickname “A-chan” by coming closer to the person who calls him or tilting his head.

The red mark in the tweet below shows the location where Akubi’s collar came undone, between Yoyogi Park’s Central Field and Hill Plaza. @keu_t8 says that Akubi ran off to the north, and so the dog may currently be lost on the outskirts of the shrine grounds or in the woods and underbrush that separate the park from the shrine.

For a lot of people, pets are the same as family.

More money than sense. They could buy a new dog for 100k.

Only said by someone who has never had a pet!

Poor dog.

Hope they find it.

Sounds like a pretty stupid dog. Talk about loyal. I used to walk around with my German shepherd with no leash.

One of the benefits of having a dog back home is we have a backyard with a tall fence so dogs can run around freely to get their energy out. Many dogs here are cooped up in the house all day so naturally they are off to the races if unleashed.

I bet you have to pay 51% tax on the reward since this is publicly commercialized.

Dog hasn't been loved much, so it's not dog fault, owner is the stupid for not taking care of them equally and being careless. Probably he was just deeply into the smart phone.

Dog would never leave if given love and care. Mine always come back at me and is always without leash. Fab Lab.

This has to be tough for the owner. When I was little, we used to have 2 dachshunds that you had to be very careful with around the front door because they would take off outside. I remember many times having to chase them. Luckily, we were always able to catch them, but it was never a fun experience. I hope the owner can find their dog.

The dog had enough of the owner. He wants freedom.

Would you say that if it was a missing child? You can make another one of those for free.

Owned many dogs over the years, never once lost one.

I guess the fact my family going back to my grandparents all the way to my siblings and myself had the intelligence to treat the dogs like dogs and train them to follow commands,

They were for the most part family but if we said "stop", "come here", "stay" they did as they were told.

Pets are pets, children are children, people need to stop confusing the two.

Rare for authorities to offer similar amounts for missing people or criminals.

Quite a money pool at stake. lol I guess, quite some masses offer him now , with generously all data available, any similarly looking terrier, trained intensely and quickly to listen to the name Akubi for being the first to cash in.

Kochikame: 5 million Yen?

I have a lot of Doge crypto-coins but they don't move up despite Elon Musk's tweets on the internet.

I also think of traveling to Yoyogi park to join you in searching for Akubi chan.

Lol, you have never owned a Husky! The are escape artists and love to run. And run. And RUN. Sure they love their doting and devoted owner, but, oh, look there's a bunny in the field and ........ I ........ just......... HAVE ........to ..........chase ........it......,,, bye. Believe me they can run for a lot of kilometers before they slow down and then it's like ............. uh ............ where am I? Not the smartest breed but they sure are lovable.

Our Border Collie mix won't run away. He won't even come out the front door if you call for him. Our two Huskies however will head for the hills if you don't keep them firmly leashed, lovable goofballs who just want to run. Different breeds have different temperaments. The Border Collie is very protective of us and our home, but the two Huskies I joke are "watch dogs", they'll watch the thieves take everything we have, and then want kiss them for all their hard work!
