The only ‘Curse of the Colonel’ is diabetes and obesity.

Curse of the shrinking portions of chicken at KFC is more troubling.

And near bankrupting cost for the little you get

Sacrilege. They should at least offer it for sale to a collector or something.
owzer
It certainly seems that way given it's popularity with a certain overweight demographic group!

So.... into the landfill is the way to lift the curse?

So close to getting the point of the article Sweety.
Anyway they should have auctioned the statue off.

What a bunch of idiots. They could've written a check for ¥10M to some children's cancer hospital with the proceeds of a charity auction.

Send that pathetic crap to the garbage..
TokyoLiving
That's right, same for McGarbage..

Gee, the ones getting diabetes and becoming obese should do what a lot of people do in Japan: don't eat like pigs. The US has bigger portions of everything ( a lot of it slop) but that doesn't mean you have to stuff yourself. I'm sorry to know the terrible health problems of people commenting on how bad it is.

Readers, back on topic please.

That was my thoughts exactly. Put him to good use and pay it forward.

It wasn't a temple, it was at Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine in Osaka.

Hopefully a new curse hasn't arisen. Hanshin has been the worst team in Spring training lol Go Tigers!

How is Randy Bass these days? Would have been nice if he had showed up.

If the Tigers have a museum, KFC could donate the statue to it.

The World Series should be called the MLB Series … the world does not participate in them, only the United States of America, and perhaps Canada.

The original statue was actually 100% biodegradable. Unforturnately there was nothing remotely bio in the Doutombori river to eat it, hence its fine condition in the photo.

There is a museum in Koshien that it would probably find a good home at:
https://koshien-rekishikan.hanshin.co.jp/
Or the NPB Hall of Fame Museum:
https://baseball-museum.or.jp/en/
Not to mention all the private collectors out there who would undoubtedly be willing to take it off their hands.
I'm dumbfounded at the shortsightedness of just throwing this thing out like they seem to be doing.

Great comment!! I was sort of thinking along the same lines. I am pretty sure they could have raised quite a bit with an auction and given it to the hospital.

Just accept it.
Fighto!
Wonderful and heart-warming story!
The Colonel statue can now be retired, and put to rest. The curse is broken and The Tigers are champs!
Unfortunately the statue is simply too far gone. Pretty sure KFC does not want such a dilapidated statue out there representing their corporation.

The Colonel was put through the fryer.

Ya can't beat the traditional Kentucky on a Christmas day. Long live Colonel Sanders. I had a holly jolly Xmas last year feasting on Kentucky Fried Chicken, thanks to the Colonel.
garypen
I dunno. Japanese people, in general, tend to be pretty slim.

The colonel ain’t going nowhere.
