Unfortunate. These types of accidents are constant reminders that we have to be extra vigilant when it comes to children, even in the "safest" of countries. May the little girl RIP and her family find comfort.

Really need to keep an eye on the little ones around any running water. So tragic!

Just sad, that's all

It only takes a split second. Sad for the parents.

Apparently, the snow was more important than their child's safety

Not fair to cast judgement based on hindsight, no?

There were two parents, a small child, and a canal nearby. They both allowed the snow removal to take priority, and the child fell into the canal while they weren't looking. Either they didn't think it could happen to them, or they didn't think of it at all.

That's terrible. As a dad of a 1 year old boy, my heart truly goes out to the parents of this tot. May they get through this terrible tragedy. I wouldn't wish the death of a child on my worst enemy.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda is what we say after all accidents. The same person who complains about a child running off suddenly will be the same one complaining about hancuffing/leashing them to the parents. 1-3 years old is the age range where kids lack hesitation a lot of the times and this sometimes leads to tragedy. RIP little ones and this should be bigger news than the ASKA drug problem to set an example for parents so less of these types of tragedies happen.

There's always going to be dangerous risks involved especially when you're going to be looking after a small child with their unpredictable behaviors, environmental conditions, etc. That kid could have been dead 10 times over if they weren't taking care of the child. Hence, this tragedy would have been avoided if they only had the power of hindsight that you are so lucky to have!
