10 taken to hospital after unattended ambulance crashes into car

An unattended ambulance suddenly started moving and crashed into a car in Oyama, Tochigi Prefecture, resulting in 10 people being taken to hospital to be treated for injuries.

According to police, the incident occurred just after noon on Sunday. Sankei Shimbun reported that a ramen restaurant had called an ambulance due to a medical emergency. The ambulance driver pulled up in the parking lot of the restaurant, but reportedly left the vehicle in drive and the parking brake off.

Police said the unattended ambulance started moving and ended up crashing into a station wagon 10 meters away. In all, 10 people were injured, including five children and four others who were sitting in the station wagon, and the car owner who got out of his car and tried to stop the ambulance.
