A 10-year-old boy died on Tuesday evening after he fell from a tree in a park in Chiba City, police said Wednesday.
Daiki Ogura, a fifth grade elementary school student, was playing with two friends in Oyumino Sakura Park in Midori Ward at about 5.30 p.m. when he fell from a tree branch about 2 meters high. One of his friends ran to Ogura’s home to tell his mother. Ogura’s mother called emergency services and they found the boy beside the tree but without any visible external injuries. He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead just after 7 p.m.
Police added that the boys had tied an electrical appliance cord to the branch to play up in the tree.

why are the two top stories this morning about kids under 10 being killed. yes, I get it, its sad; but is it attention-grabbing national news? no. i know Japan's shoshika=declining population is seen as a problem...but do we need a breaking news report every time a kid wanders into traffic...

Yeah, this is horrible. It isnt national news at all. Children die in tragic accidents every week. It doesnt need to be reported ad-nauseum. Why are you trying to depress us JT?

If you fall even just 2 meters and hit your head, you can easily die.

Wow what are the odds??? Falling 2 meters and dying as opposed to falling from the 8th floor and surviving!!!!Some people dont fall from any height other than their own (Trip over and head their head). Luck is determined by which part of your body takes (and doesn't take) the full impact. So sad for the family.
