A 10-year-old boy was hit and killed by a train in Tokyo on Thursday night.

According to police, the incident occurred on the JR Utsunomiya Line between Oku and Akabane stations in Kita Ward at around 8:30 p.m., Fuji TV reported. The driver of the train was quoted by police as saying he suddenly saw a boy walking on the tracks but couldn’t stop in time.

Police said the boy, who lived in Ichihara, Chiba Prefecture, was seen on surveillance camera footage boarding a train at the station nearest his home about two hours before the incident.

Both his parents were out at the time, police said, adding the family had just moved to Chiba from Saitama Prefecture on Wednesday. His parents reported him missing when they came home and couldn’t find him. Police said the parents told them their son had not wanted to move from Saitama Prefecture.

I have a ten year old boy. This is really sad.

You’d think a ten year old kid would have more sense than to walk on train tracks at night. Excuse my cynicism, but I think there is quite a bit more to this than just an accident.

The driver saw him walking alone on the track, so I don't think there was foul play if that's what you're thinking.

Could be a suicide though. Poor boy.

10 years old and thinks death is better than moving to Chiba? Very mixed up. In a month he would have had new friends and been happy.

Condolences to the family, friends, previous classmates, teachers, new school and others. So terrible and heartbreaking for everyone. RIP.

Peace and condolences to the mourning family and friends. The boy wanted to go back to his old neighborhood and see his friends.

It would be child abuse -neglect in some countries. Illinois law defines a neglected minor, in part, as “any minor under the age of 14 years whose parent or other person responsible for the minor's welfare leaves the minor without supervision for an unreasonable period of time, but kids left home at the age of six are a dime a dozen in Japan.

Spare a thought for the train driver too. He was just doing his job.

We can go on and on but this is so sad. Also feel so sorry for the train driver. Only can say a prayer for everyone. RIP boy.

He was so sad to have moved, that he preferred to die...very sad.
