A 10-year-old girl was found hanged at her home in Kawasaki City in Kanagawa Prefecture on Friday afternoon, police said Monday. According to police, the girl apparently hanged herself with a rope attached to the door of her room.

Her mother found her around 5 p.m. and called for an ambulance. She was taken to hospital where she died approximately 30 minutes after arrival, hospital officials said.

Police said she did not leave any suicide note and added that there had been no reports of any bullying trouble.

Meanwhile, TV Asahi reported Monday afternoon that the girl asked her mother a month ago, "Would it hurt if I hanged myself?"

Police have not yet ruled whether it was an accident or suicide.

Why would some one at that age do something like that!!?? What have her parents been teaching her? At that age I was caring about playing Futball and playing video games... why would she ever think about it when being so young?? I mean i know I had a bad youth my self, but suicide never crossed my mine at that age!! first thought of it i had was when i was 16 but it passed by fairly quick.

When I was 10 I had suicidal thoughts but they passed after puberty set in (I matured early). They were there because of a messed up childhood. Looking back I can see that my thoughts were just of wanting the bad things to go away, not to actually die. I can only imagine this girl was in a dire, living hell or mentaly ill. I feel sad about her short life.

Hard to believe or imagine a 10 year old girl killing herself. Can only ask why. Assuming this was suicide... why did she feel the need to do it. What was she so afraid of, or could she not face, that she would take this step?

how would she even get the idea? sick.

how would she even get the idea?

From her own society. Where suicide is seen as option "B."

10 years old??? What sort of trucked up society is this?

In a hard-working farming community there would be festivals and stuff to look forward to, but maybe her parents were so wrapped up in day-to-day city existence they forgot to give her anything fun to look forward to. RIP kid.

Very very sad. She definitely got the idea from somewhere, at that age.

possible reasons for a 10-year-old child to commit suicide? hmmm... how about having been the victim of sexual molestation, physical abuse or emotional abuse? not every child's world is all puppies, flowers and stuffed animals, folks. some people eventually take it out on others, some sublimate it for the rest of their lives, and some take it out on themselves.

She was taken to hospital where she died shortly after arrival

?@!!& Kyodo! Get it right for once.

Moderator: What is the problem? She was still alive when the ambulance brought her to the hospital and she died sometime after arrival.

Disillusioned, it's not the society. It's the individual.

She was still alive when the ambulance brought her to the hospital and she died sometime after arrival.

You do not seem to be privy to the rules of Japan. Ambulance crews are not allowed to pronounce death. Therefore, nearly EVERBODY makes it to the hospital alive, which is actually mistaken shorthand for "not yet officially pronounced dead".

I doubt the girl was still alive or ambulance crews would have prevented her from dying. Your take is possible, but less likely.

Anyway, I hope the police investigate this thoroughly. It seems more likely she was murdered, perhaps by a parent.

Should read, "where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival."

Thank you, Molenir and Likeitis, for setting Moddie straight.

The most hilarious is when we get stories like “the headless victim was taken to the hospital and died shortly thereafter.” Okay, not exactly hilarious, but you get the point.

agreed. Option B is so them. My guess is bullying, parents or both or mentally unstable. In reality nothing will change in this society and when the Emperor got on the mic in 1945 and said we're done, option B was chosen by many.

“Would it hurt if I hanged myself?” ..is this her experiment ?

Proffessor - Disillusioned, it's not the society. It's the individual.

Um.... that's 30,000 plus individuals every year. And, don't forget the unsuccessful suicides, which would be another 15,000. That's an awful lot of individuals, wouldn't you say?

BTW, how do you spell, professor?

A mother is asked such a question by their child and it's then left as a footnote observation to the police afterwards? Very suspicious.

Is the local constabulary sure there is no foul play here?

At the very least this mother should win the worst mother of the year award. Your ten year old kid asks if it would hurt if she hung herself, and the mom doesn't get concerned?

Are paramedics here allowed to try and revive people that don't show any vital signs? It would seem a better description that "paramedics were unable to revive her, and she was pronounced dead on arrival"

And for what it's worth:

She was taken to hospital where she died approximately 30 minutes after arrival, hospital officials said.

sounds suspiciously like she arrived dead, and even then she had to wait half an hour before a doc got around to seeing her

She may have been just curious and experimented to see what it felt like, and then lost consciousness. Perhaps she read about such a suicide, in which case I hope the schoolmates get some attention in order to prevent this from spreading.

I feel sorry for her parents.

Professor,

if its the individual, then why is this so common? alot of individuals make up society. . .

I just wonder why TV Asahi knows this 'fact' about what the girl asked her mother. Did they forget to mention some details here or wot?

OK thats it i definiately not staying in Japan, people just keep killing themselves here.
