A 105-year-old woman and a 76-year-old man were killed in a car crash in Kita-Ibaraki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, on Wednesday.
According to police, the accident occurred at around 9 a.m. Fuji TV reported that the car carrying Kiyoe Yamagata (105) and Ikuo Yoshihara (76), was on route to a senior day care center when it was involved in a T-bone collision with another car at an intersection. Yamagata and Yoshihara, who were both seated in the back, suffered severe head injuries. They were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The 51-year-woman driving the day care center car and the 49-year-old man driving the other car suffered minor injuries.
Police said visibility was good at the time, but there were no traffic lights at the intersection which is surrounded by vacant fields.

The traffic rules say at an intersection where there is no traffic signals, a car entering in priority road must stop and check a car coming.

Obviously, both cars refused to yield. It's also extremely likely they were not wear seat belts in the back seat, that's not to say they would have survived if they were wearing them.

always slow down at intersections, speed up or pass on straight sections of road with clear visibility. If there is an impatient driver behind, pull over and let them pass.
Although I don’t agree with seat belts in rear seats, children and old people must use them. Stay safe...live long.
