NOMINATION
Bullying due to being twins, having curly hair, light-colored hair, light-colored eyes, being left-handed, having an uncle 3 generations before you caught stealing a radish, etc. Sounds like a bunch of morons in the olden days here.
K3PO
Even at 107 years old, they speak about being bullied.
That's how deep persecution goes.
A century of life can't erase it.

Congratulations to the two ladies.
I imagine the competition isn’t too stiff. Also, if the second oldest twins were Japanese, I’m sure AP (and JT) would have told us.

As indeed they did. The article states clearly that the sisters broke the previous record of 107 years and 175 days set by famous Japanese twin sisters Kin Narita and Gin Kanie.
WWI, Spanish flu, the Great Depression, the Sino-Japanese war, WWII, American occupation….also outliving their husbands and possibly their children too.
Amazing, fascinating, yes. Truly beautiful…I’m not so sure.

Congratulations! The stories they must have and to have seen the world change throughout the years must be truly beautiful.
The probability of this is just astronomical.

I see. But I don't think Guinness do seconds, do they?
Bruce
I wonder what do they do for fun!

Cleo,
I meant the second oldest living twins.
Fighto!
Congratulatuons to the twins! Both have lived amazing lives, and seen off numerous wars and Emperors. They must have had an excellent diet of probably strictly traditional Japanese foods to have lived so long. Would be nice for this story to describe their daily diet.

Just want to have great legs when I am done.
Congrats twins
Johansawada
so it seems like they live in different nursing homes - hoping they can reunite soon! Congrats ladies!

“Congratulations!” on reaching the remarkable milestone.

How was this version of “Sophie’s Choice” made by the parents? - 2 of 11 siblings and one is ‘hire out’ after elementary school and sent away from the family to work as a maid ??.
- That’s more of a story than their presumed, standard Japanese diets of limited meat proteins & fish, accompanied by portions of rice & vegetables:
Considering their significantly different lives, how about the debate of “nature vs nurture”? - One twin does look significantly more ‘healthy****’ than the other, in these photos. (Disclaimer: Not a doctor.)

Good to see our taxes arent going to waste...

Cheering ‘ALL things Japanese’ is ‘something’ @Fighto! 8:52 but … ‘indentured servitude’ shouldn’t be one of them. - This story doesn’t read like life was ‘fair’ to everyone in the family. Especially, seperating ‘one’ of “twins” from the other. (Maybe to stop the aforementioned bullying of the twins,
or, more than likely,…
to ‘get a little extra income’ for such a large family.
Where was that idealistic image of the former Japan in that scenario, especially for girls, at that time?
