Ever been an 11 year old boy? It's not out of the realm of possibility that he was balancing on the balcony for 'fun'.

High rise apartments are not ideal places to raise children. Though in this case I doubt it was an accident.

So utterly tragic. There are no words of condolences that can be offered to these grieving parents.

@Yume I don't think an 11-year-old boy can be so "goofy" to fall off a 10-floor balcony at 10am. I agree Perhaps the boy was Autistic or somewhere on the spectrum. The parents may have left their son home many times and for as long as the balcony was there and all of a sudden the boy falls? There is more to this. The boy didn't just fall off the balcony!!!

Logic (not lack of compassion) makes me doubt very much that an 11 year-old boy would fall from a balcony.

I’d be interested to know how many children die due to falling from apartments (balconies or windows) in somewhere like Hong Kong.

If these ‘accidents’ were just part and parcel of young kids living in apartment buildings, then I’d expect the numbers to be statistically similar.

It certainly seems that Japan has a serious problem with kids falling to their deaths on a regular basis.

By the way, a 1 meter high balcony wall on the 15th floor? Doesn’t that seem a bit low?

Even if we're in Japan, I don't think an 11-year-old boy can be so "goofy" to fall off a 10-floor balcony at 10am. Surely a 4-year-old can but an 11-year-old... police must investigate on his "environment".

These stories are appearing with really alarming frequency. There really needs to be some serious discussion about how to prevent these horrible deaths.

It can happen. When I was 14 one of my classmates (ith two younger kids) shimmied up the huge drain pipe to the roof of our old elementary school. The younger kids made it up there, my classmate didn't. He fell backwards and was killed by the impact.

It happens every year again and again , not all get coverage. Might be time to make balconies safer? You know make a rule that’s legal. I can’t imagine seeing, knowing my child’s last moments was watching the pavement rushing towards them.

FFS, put some grills or netting up.

What if the parents (or single parent) are home taking a shower or cooking and the kid decides to do the same thing? Could still happen.

It's really sad what happened to this kid. But at 11 y/o kids are be able to do a few things by themselves. Like either walking alone or taking the train to school (and back home), playing outside with their friends or even staying home alone for some time.

Again a chair placed on the balcony, like in that other case only a few days before? Seems to have become a new hobby or bullying replacement.

mhh 11 years ... I don't think it's a fatality, it looks more like suicide. I would investigate at school, the family, among "friends".

My friend was 22 when he fell to his death through nothing more than thinking he'd be safe to sit on the edge of the ledge. Your logic is flawed.

Poor boy, he probably was bullied at school or got tired of the stupid corona life.

Another one? How unsafe are balconies in Japan that this is becoming a disturbing occurrence? Also, what is an 11-year-old doing at home alone? Far too young. RIP, kid. I hope wherever you are now is a happy, stress-free place.
