An 11-year-old boy fell to his death from the 9th-floor balcony of his family's apartment in Tokyo on Thursday.

According to police, the boy's body was discovered in the parking lot outside the 11-story apartment building in Sakashita, Itabashi Ward, at around 5:40 a.m. Thursday. Fuji TV reported that a resident notified police after seeing the boy's body.

The boy was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

The boy lived with his older brother and mother, and his father who was away on business. The boy's mother said she woke up about 5 a.m. and did some housework before she realized her younger son was missing.

Police said they are questioning the family about the boy's mood and behavior in the days prior to his death. There was no suicide note, police said.

RiP and feelings to the family. I have always advocated building houses Underground. On top of the Underground building we can have parks. Underground we can control the environment for living.

Poor boy and poor family.

My eldest is 5th grade (10 or 11). I'd like to think she'd be too old to have a simple accident like this while playing, but maybe that's just wishful thinking.

Devastating :'( Hopefully just a tragic accident.

A bit young (statistically) for suicide. Had he ever sleep walked before this?

Please tell me this was a tragic accident and not a pre-teen suicide!
