Japanese man, 115, becomes world's oldest person

Perhaps he only has 13 great-great grandchildren so far because his great grandchildren are relatively youngish. They could be in a range around 30 or somewhat younger and still have more children. That number could easily double in time, with 25 great grandchildren to rely on. Obviously, families are having fewer children than they did back in his day.

Wow, wouldn't it be fascinating if you were in your late 80's, early 90's and still had one of your parents alive?

In what conditions ? My neighbor, she was over 80, and she was alone with the care of her 102 yr old mother. After being more or less senile and needy for 3 decades, the mother lived as a sort of vegetable.

I doubt it. When the oldest was a French woman, the media even went to take her in her medical residence to make record an album of rap. She had not family that could prevent it. Maybe this man's relatives are fearing something like that. They don't want Jiroemon taken to sing in duet with Kumi Koda for the Kohaku...

Employees at Guinness Book get ridiculous claims like that every single day, .like someone caught a 50 meter anaconda, there is a woman 150 years old, this guy is 3 meter tall etc.

Almost all those cases are either exaggerated, inaccurate or just flat out lie.

Oldest man in the world with a cool name to boot. Jiroemon - sounds like a samurai, shame some of todays parents can't give their sons strong sounding masculine names.

No he's not, I know a friend from the Dominican Republic who his great grandfather is 120, but I guess other countries don't care about been Número Uno in everything like Japan, other countries better things do do I guess.

It is amazing to think of the changes this guy has seen. Within his lifetime humans have gone from planes made of wood and canvas to putting vehicles on Mars.

Power to this guy -- the things he must have seen and lived through. I just hope his quality of life is good and he knows what's going on.
