A 14-year-old boy is presumed to have committed suicide by jumping out of a window from his school in Ikedacho, Fukui Prefecture, on Tuesday morning, police said.
The incident occurred at around 8:30 a.m. at Ikeda Junior High School. The boy’s homeroom teacher noticed the student’s absence and began searching for him at the school. He found an open window on the 3rd floor of the school building and the boy’s body on the ground floor below the window, Fuji TV reported.
The boy was unconscious, but died at a hospital several hours later.
According to school officials, there were no known bullying incidents or other trouble related to the boy.
Following the incident, school officials held an emergency parent gathering in the evening, during which they explained the circumstances of the boy’s death. Classmates and other students were informed on Wednesday.

According to the world health organizations< https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_suicide_rate> 2012 survey, that wiki has available, Japan is the 17th leading country in the world for suicides in general. I'm not sure if there is a more current one. If you look at the top 20 it is primarily poorer or Asian countries with Russia also in at 14th rank. This list does in fact break it down further if you wish to read it.

It's happened again.....Hmmmm. Someone care to go through teen suicide rates by region / country ? We always seem to have comments about the act, but not statistics.

I taught at this school, not too many years ago, as the ALT. This is a very small school up in a mountain town. Teachers and staff are very invested in students lives. Students are encouraged value each other. This death is a terrible tragedy for all of them. I cannot imagine the suffering this tight-knit community is dealing with right now. My heart and prayers go out to them all.

Don't be so quick to assume bullying. He jumped before homeroom early in the morning. It could be something as simple as depression from unsatisfactory test scores or even an unhappy home life. The only thing you can conclude is, this was a result of pressures in his environment, wherever the blame may lay.

He killed himself at school, wouldn't rule out bullying yet, no matter what the school has to say after no investigation.

There were none 'known' in other cases where bullying occurred, too. It may well be the case there actually was none, in this case, and kid could have jumped for other reasons, but we have heard that exact excuse before when there was, and when it was known. It's gotten to the point where it's hard to give schools the benefit of the doubt.

Very sad! I hope that his family finds peace. No one is ever thinking clearly 100% of the time... pressure is like fog... it clouds good judgment.
