A 14-year-old boy drowned after he jumped into a river in Kasugai, Aichi Prefecture, police said Monday.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. TV Asahi reported that the boy, Tatsuki Takahashi, was playing with six friends at the river.
One of the girls in the group called 119 to report that Takahashi had jumped into the river and was in trouble. Approximately 90 minutes later, the boy's body was pulled out of the river. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to police, Takahashi along with four other boys, and two girls had gone to the river to play. Five of the children decided to jump into the river and swim while still wearing their clothes.
As the water temperature was lower than normal, police believe it may have caused Takahashi to fall suddenly ill.

"Police believe it may have caused Takahashi to fall suddenly ill."
So are the police doctors saying that jumping in the water caused him to become ill in a short amount of time? Enough to result in his death?

I'm confused. If I'm counting right, there should be 7 children in total. 5 boys and 2 girls. Is one of them an adult? What's up with the reports? There are so many things wrong with these articles.

With temperatures dropping, he probably started shivering then cramped up. You lose body heat faster than you think in cold water.
