You guys realize there's reasons that you don't put a whole bunch of politicians on the same plane right...? Planes can crash. Same reason the US President and Vice President never travel together, get it?

Interesting point outlining unintended consequences.
Maybe easier solution - stop the "flight shaming" by all

Reflecting on all the comments the optimum solution would be to have the European dignitaries meet up in one place and charter a plane.
I understand it happens 3 times a century but I think the point which many are trying to make or point out is the constant hypocrisy of the so called elite on the issues related to climate change.

So, is this going to be a national public holiday on a weekday?

And the dignitaries that attend Royal ceremonies in the UK and Presidential inaugurations in the US have no connection to those traditions either. It's called politics and it's necessary to show support to your allies.
Every one of these countries is adding one additional flight to participate in an event that happens once every thirty years or so. Not to mention all the cancelled flights to make room for them, I'm pretty sure the world isn't going to end any sooner because of it.

All those countries have ambassadors already in Tokyo. Send them instead to represent their nations, which is actually what they are supposed to do.
This isn't a working level conference. It's a ritual based on traditions that exist only in Japan, and thus have absolutely no connection at all to the visiting dignitaries. Fighting climate change means we need to change some old - if not ancient - habits.

What is wrong with charter flights?
All European dignitaries would fit in one plane.
Never done with dignitaries in case of the unlikely event of ........
Let me say it again: Once. Every. Thirty. Years.
All of you are complaining about an event that happens maybe three times in a century. It's not that big of a deal.
Agreed. Make the most of the occasion.

There were enough empty seats on regular flights. Don't tell me regular business or first class was not good enough. It's pure arrogance.
They preferred canceling for the nobodies.

@Jeff - It does not seem consistent with what some say - I agree.
Flying is one day to be relegated to the elite and privileged.
JeffLee
Doesnt seem consistent with the goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
