16-year-old cyclist killed after being hit by car in Tochigi

A 16-year-old boy was killed after he was hit by a car while he was riding his bicycle in Shimotsuke, Tochigi Prefecture, on Friday.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 9:30 p.m. Fuji TV reported that the boy, Shohei Takahashi, was riding his bike home along a national route when he was hit by the car at a T-junction with no traffic lights.

Takahashi was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police are questioning the 38-year-old driver of the car as to the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The driver must've been in a real hurry. Deserves jail time and a stiff financial penalty

I'm not really sure who was at fault as the exact circumstances are a bit unclear. RIP to the boy.

At least the driver did not hit and run, unlike the driver who killed a 5 year old boy at a crossing today.
