2 children perish in house fire in Hiroshima

The bodies of two children were found in the remains of a two-story wooden house that was destroyed by fire in Higashi-hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, on Thursday night.

Police said the victims are the 5-year-old daughter and 8-month-old son of Kaname Matsui, the owner of the house, Fuji TV reported.

Neighbors said they saw flames on the roof of the two-story wooden house at around 10 p.m.

Police said Matsui and his wife lived with their five children. At the time of the fire, Matsui was at work. His wife was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. The three other children made it out of the house safely.

Firefighters said they have not yet determined how the fire started.
