Two men were killed after the helicopter they were riding in crashed in a mountain forest in Kihoku, Mie Prefecture, on Friday morning.

According to police, the helicopter, belonging to Tokyo-based Shin Nihon Helicopter KK, hit a power line and went down at around 10:50 a.m. NTV reported that the 53-year-old pilot and a 41-year-old mechanic, were found in a state of cardio-respiratory arrest and taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead on Friday afternoon.

The company said the helicopter was en route to a heliport in Kihoku after picking up materials from a hydroelectric power station. It said the pilot had more than 6,000 hours of flight experience.

Chubu Electric said the crash caused a power outage for a short time.
