Two men were killed Sunday afternoon when a car collided head-on with a truck on a national highway in Itoigawa City, Niigata Prefecture.
According to police, the accident occurred at around 3:40 p.m. on a curve on Route 8 in Fujisaki, Itoigawa, Sankei Shimbun reported. The 53-year-old man driving the car, from Nagano Prefecture, and the 54-year-old truck driver, who was from Toyama Prefecture, were killed in the collision. A 54-year-old female passenger in the car was taken to hospital and was in a stable condition on Monday, police said.
The crash flipped the car on its side and sent the truck across the opposite lane. It came to a halt on a slope at the side of the road.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash and believe one of the vehicles veered over the center line.
