2 men killed by train in failed rail crossing rescue attempt

It is a shame the rescue attempt was not successful. The 40 year old guy was trying to be a good a good Samaritan. God Bless him and the fallen older man.

Really sad...

I hope I would have the courage to do the same thing.

It would be a terrible dilemma, but somehow the operator was able to produce figures in terms of services and people affected quickly.

So terribly tragic for both men.

I was one of those 8200 affected commuters, and it added an hour to my trip across town this morning, and without wanting to make this all about me...... initially I was a bit annoyed, figuring someone had just decided to checkout early on the train grill. However, on later finding out the real story, which is far more tragic than I initially imagined, it restored my faith to know that I had been delayed by a tragedy and a hero! RIP hero and blessings to your family.

Every week we get stories like this. Suicides, people falling or trying to rescue people and getting killed. Like I have said before, these rich train companies need to protect people better than this or we will always get these stories. It can be avoided. So sad. RIP to both of them

Absolute respect for the would-be rescuer.

How exactly does one get stuck on a track? Did he faint? Have a heart attack? It would seem two rolls in either direction would save you, though clearly I wasn't there. RIP to both and I echo the previous respect given to the would be rescuer.

Good thing about the countryside is that trains don't come as often so you have a higher chance at rescue. The trains in urban Kanto are constantly coming so it is very risky.

And like it or not, there are unavoidable. If someone is attempting to kill themselves in a suicide, there is little if anything ANYONE can do to stop them.

Unless we go the "Minority Report" way.

Yeah, the information is a little lacking. It did say the guy had to be dragged, so it's not clear. Could be he collapsed, but it seems strange the other man would go up and tell him he should get off the tracks. It sounds to me like maybe we're dealing with a senile person who got confused, then felt threatened when the other man tried to urge him, then wouldn't budge when the man then tried to pull and/or drag him.

But, like I said, lack of info... could be way off.

Some people say that the Japanese are oblivious to those around them. Once again, this proves how wrong those who think that way are.

I feel a lot of admiration for the would-be rescuer's courage and selfless action. RIP.

Sorry if you tool my point literally. I meant to say that it is either one thing or another, but the consistent factor in this is the trains. Situations like this can be avoided if you try. If you don't, (like now) then they will continue to happen. Just because you are used to the situation doesn't mean that you have to continue to accept it. They have to take steps to try to ensure these things dont happen. And that includes suicides.

Yeah, but you can make it LESS easier. There is no excuse for NOT trying. Fortunately there are some stations who are putting up doors and walls to prevent jumpers from diving off the platform, and that is what we need more of. We dont need to make suicide easy by just doing nothing at all.
