A two-month-old boy died after a car he was in with his mother and 3-year-old sister crashed through a guardrail and fell down the embankment of a river in Mino, Gifu Prefecture.
According to police, the accident occurred at around 7 p.m. Friday. Fuji TV reported that Aya Suzuki, 29, from Inazawa, Aichi Prefecture, was driving along a prefectural highway beside the Nagara River, when she lost control of the vehicle on a curve. The car went through a guardrail and fell 10 meters, coming to rest upside down on some rocks at the river's edge.
Suzuki's two-month-old son Eita, and her three-year-old daughter were in the back, both in child seats. However, police said Eita's head struck the car's roof as it flipped over. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. His sister suffered a light injury to her mouth, while the children's mother suffered a chest bone fracture.

What an unfortunate accident! I 'm rendered speechless to think of how the bereaved families must be suffering mentally and physically. RIP to the 2-month-old boy.

That's just how quickly it can happen. There is no room for complacency or distractions when driving a car. There's also reason there are speed limits. There's no indication of how she lost control of her, so I'm not going to speculate, but cars don't just go out of control for no reason. Mechanical failure is also a possibility, but unlikely. It's sad end to a day trip with your kids.

She must have got chest bone fracture because of seat belt pressure when car got flipped.

That should not happen assuming the report is correct and the car didn't flip over the guard rail.

The flexible Armco they use in Japan is designed to deform with impact. This prevents vehicles from being thrown back out into the road, and is typically used on straight stretches of fast road and for the median. I'm guessing she hit the Armco fast enough to deform it sufficiently for the car to fall over the edge.
Still, where I'm from there is usually no railing on the verge. Go off the road and that's it - game over. It teaches you to pay attention, though.

I can't comment on the state of the road or her driving, but Suzuki seems to have taken reasonable precautions to protect her children in case of an accident. It seems like the car landed on its roof, so it's a small miracle anyone got out alive.
