2 police officers turn 'koban' into their own little love hotel

Just about every neighborhood in Japan has a local koban, or “police box,” a sort of compact street-side guardhouse with uniformed officers on duty, tasked with springing into action should any illegal activity take place. However, in practice most koban staff spend more time providing directions to local sites of interest than chasing down pantie thieves or subduing yakuza street fighters. With Japan being an overwhelmingly law-abiding society, there’s just simply not that much action going on around most koban.

However, it turns out there was plenty of action going on inside a police box in the city of Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture. At some point between December and February, a 30-something police sergeant assigned to the Amagasaki Higashi Precinct and one of his subordinates, a policewoman in her 20s, became amorously involved. The pair kept their relationship a secret from higher ups, and as a result were often assigned overnight duty together at the same koban.

The koban has a break room where officers can lie down and get some rest. Ostensibly, this is something they should do in shifts, so that at least one officer is always awake if a citizen is in need of police assistance. However, the sergeant and subordinate instead decided to use the break room together, and instead of getting some rest, decided to simply get some, having sexual intercourse inside the koban, and while on duty, on multiple occasions.

The pair’s nocturnal investigations of each others’ bodies was eventually exposed when a third party found out about them and reported the situation to higher ups last month, and the two have admitted to the accusations.

Aside from the relationship being against police regulations, the incidents took place when no other officers were on duty in the koban, meaning that if someone had come in with an emergency, they would have had to wait for the sergeant to pull out and the pair to get dressed before doing any actual police work.

An internal investigation concluded last week that no one had come into or called the koban to report a crime during the time the amorous officers were entwined, but their actions were still judged to constitute dereliction of duty. The woman has received an official reprimand from the Hyogo Prefectural Police’s central command, while the man, who is married and has a child, will be docked 10 percent of his next monthly pay check.

The pair’s nocturnal investigations of each others’ bodies was eventually exposed when a third party found out about them and reported the situation to higher ups last month, and the two have admitted to the accusations.

So, how did this third party find out and who was it?

Aside from the relationship being against police regulations, the incidents took place when no other officers were on duty in the koban, meaning that if someone had come in with an emergency, they would have had to wait for the sergeant to pull out and the pair to get dressed before doing any actual police work.

Good use of tax payers money. Thank you police.

not condoning their actions , but they do put these police boxes in some of the most remote places imaginable, Id guess there wouldn't be much more to do other than bump uglies

God, anything can happen in japan, does this heppen in any other countries ???.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Tara, everything happens in other countries--has been for all ages. Nothing like finding Japan Today a little titillating for a change. Who knew?

BS and total distorsion of reality typical from Japanophiles. Just go to Kabukicho to see how Japan is not a law-abiding society.

Why are relationships amongst colleagues against regulations? I understand having sex when you are on duty is wrong, but relationships?

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Hilarious!

So did they use the real handcuffs or the fuzzy cuffs?

"wait for the sergeant to pull out"

easy JT woof

It's one thing to claim that crime statistics are manipulated or massaged to look Japan look good, but you can't hide bodies. When it comes to serious crimes like murder and assault, Japan has incredibly low levels of crime.

I reckon a male colleague stumbled upon them going for it, then he grassed them up when she wouldn't let him have a go.

if someone had come in with an emergency, they would have had to wait for the sergeant to pull out and the pair to get dressed

That's unusually graphic for JT! How'd it make it past the censors?

10 ( +12 / -2 )

...if someone had come in with an emergency, they would have had to wait for the sergeant to pull out...

Was this graphic description necessary? Unless the reporter had solid information that the unusually athletic pair were at it the whole time they were in the break room, this as a crass, lurid speculation better suited to tabloid press. Or is that what we've become, JT?

Stick me in a little box with a hottie overnight in a thankless job, I'd most likely unholster my weapon.

have you ever seen an attractive female Japanese police officer? Most likely she was just a little hussy looking for a good time and found a lonely co co-worker willing to have her. Happens all the time

have you ever seen an attractive female Japanese police officer?

Yes.

The mother of my grandkids is one such.

It was in Amagasaki, which is in the middle of the Keihanshin metropolitan area (population: 20mln). It's also a pretty rough place, some old guy even got hit round the head with a concrete block and killed last week (it made national news). I think it's actually worse than Osaka given their relative sizes

I am very certain the third-party tried to blackmail one of them or was jealous of one of them. Both are also possible.

I also noticed how the two were treated differently. The woman got an official reprimand that will be on her record and follow her. It will be hard to get a promotion or used as an excuse. The man, however, only got a dock in pay for one month which means his career opportunities are not ruined.

Does this seem fair? It seems like it is a double-standard since the man was a married man in a position of power over the woman!

"they would have had to wait for the sergeant to pull out..." Did they really just run that?

Will there be a movie?

So far, no one has asked, "What will he say to his wife about the pay deduction?"

Is it newsworthy?

Please keep social distance.

Japan needs to increase its birth rate...perhaps we should be encouraging more of this!

Free Koban love hotel if you don't use a condom!

Finally some human news that's not virus nor Olympics-related!

If I didn't live in Japan you would have made me believe that normal police spend most of their time "chasing down pantie thieves or subduing yakuza street fighters"!

0 ( +2 / -2 )

have you ever seen an attractive female Japanese police officer?

Mini-sukaa pori. Ah, those were the days!

I'm pretty sure the man will have it marked on his record too - and all the other officers are going to know it was him as well. I honestly thought he had the worse punishment by having his pay docked when she didn't, and we don't know who initiated it but he should have known better as the senior officer. I think it was fair to not let the woman get off scot free too because she voluntarily participated, multiple times at that too...

They should be arrested

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I dont understand what all of the fuss is about, lets face it, there has always been office parties, we all know what happens in the store rooms.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Both officers should be commended for going above and beyond in their efforts to increase the population and making the most of their "down time".

4 ( +4 / -0 )

"They should be arrested"

Why?

They were never caught in flagrante delicto.

You're just jealous.

Simples

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I believe this case is not the first of its kind. Yet, it is interesting to know how this couple's misconduct in the workplace was found out by the "third party." Was this "third party" a jealous colleague?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

have you ever seen an attractive female Japanese police officer?

Yes. Does it have any bearing on how to do the job?

Most likely she was just a little hussy looking for a good time and found a lonely co co-worker willing to have her. Happens all the time

Hussy?

The reek of misogyny and absolute hatred of Japanese women from this post is stomach churning.

Sora titillating stories aside, what is it about a particular angry male psyche that sets them off to denigrate?

(Obvious, not all males! There's plenty of balanced men out there.)

0 ( +1 / -1 )

At least she didn't leave her hand gun in the toilet, unlike the last female officer did!!
