Yes, they are and the surfers are plotting their courses very carefully. The first one looks set to pound Okinawa in the next 24 hours or so and the second looks set to bring some surf to the east coast on Saturday, Sunday & Monday. Wax 'em fellas! Tis gonna be a big weekend in Southern Chiba.

A friend of mine visited some of the affected areas while travelling Kyushu over the weekend and said some of the towns have a lot of buildings where the ground floors are just gutted. I hope these ones can avoiding wreaking more of the same kind of damage.

It's not going to hit the main island of Okinawa. Ishigaki and Yonaguni are feeling it.

Yesterday when I arrived at Okinawa it was pretty gusty and a hell of a surf but otherwise there was no sign of a typhoon. Today the wind had settled and apart from some short showers there was nothing. The clouds have this telltale yellow tint, however.

I used to be able to get nice typhoon reports from the JTWC site, but it no longer works for me. I recommend the following site. (Just click on the blue map to see typhoon tracking/prediction.

This is not what the JMA says. The typhoons ae heading to China after the first one crosses Taiwan. It is a mistake to cry wolf here.
