2 women killed, one injured after car goes into river

Two women died and a third woman was injured after the car they were in went off a mountain road and plunged into a river in Hyuga, Miyazaki Prefecture, on Monday.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. on National Route 327. Of the three women, two were in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest when rescuers pulled them from the partly submerged car, NHK reported. They were pronounced dead at hospital a short time later. They were identified as Harue Shimoda, 92, and her daughter Yoko, 59.

Shimoda's eldest daughter, Reiko Oguri, 63, who was driving, suffered chest injuries but her condition is not life-threatening, police said.

Police said the small compact car apparently failed to take a curve on the road and crashed through a fence and rolled down a 20-meter embankment into the river.

Very sad and it happened on Respect-for-the-Aged Day Holiday.

So, she took the curve too fast?

Police will question the driver after she recovers.

Really sad! The driver is going to have to live with the guilt of killing her mother and sister for the rest of her life.

Mountain roads are unforgiving.
