A 2-year-old boy was hit and killed Monday by a train on the JR Sanyo-line in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 1:10 p.m. on Monday. TBS reported that the train tracks where the boy was hit ran behind his house and there was no fence preventing him from wandering off.

JR officials said the train driver saw the boy and applied the emergency brake but was unable to stop in time. The boy was taken to hospital where he died about two hours later, police said.

If you DON'T have your OWN children, don't even bother trying to give comments here to the rest of us who do have kids!!! This is in NO WAY an excuse for the parents!!! Why are their NO fences there??? Why would anyone with small children even think about living next to those train tracks?????? I have no idea, but now that little boy is DEAD!!! RIP???

I understand that you can't keep an eye on your child 24/7, but you would figure that if you lived by train tracks with no barriers that you would be a bit more careful. A little bit of extra precaution like child-proof locks could have saved this child's life and now the parents have to live with that for the rest of their lives. Tragic situation for all those involved.

The prefecture need fences along railroads, both sidess. I believe Japan Railroads own lands both sides since when railroads were constructed many years ago. Seto Naikai side from Hiroshima Prefecture to Shimonoseku. Also Shimonoseki to ////shimanepken.

Watching a kid 24 hours a day is literally impossible, but making sure they don't stray in front of an oncoming train is not that hard.

As I am house hunting, 3 places that I would not raise children is on a busy road, along a river and now a rail track with no fence. 2 is the most dangerous stage and kids are everywhere touching everything. The door should have had a child proof lock living in such a dangerous location.

If I had a little boy, and lived right next to an active, unfenced train track, I'd make dayum sure I knew where he was at all times, and put child-proof locks on all the exits whenever I couldn't keep my eyes on him. But some people get complacent and think it couldn't happen to them, or they had to cook , or they had to chat with their friend, or they had work to do, or they had to go to the mail box, or they had to do any number of things which are not at all important compared to the safety of their child. Don't make excuses for the parents.

RIP little guy, sorry your parents could not watch you.

Who pays JR to put up and maintain a fence alongside their tracks?

If they did their ticket prices would skyrocket and many would still complain about wild animal migration paths, etc.

Why in the world do they NOT have a FENCE!!!??? RIP PS It's completely impossible for any parents to have their eyes on their kids 24 hours a day let alone on a two-year-old little boy!!!

So, where were mom and dad while the two-year-old was playing in the back unsupervised?
