Again.... how do you forget your own child in the back of your car. I have a 3 year old and the thought is just impossible. forget my phone - yes, daughter- hell no. Pathetic excuse of a dad/male RIP little on you deserved better!!!!

RIP little one. I wonder if anybody heard crying from inside the car and at the very least tried to contact emergency services or the car owner.

WTF...how could you forget your own child in the car???????????????????????????? Damn stupidity!

14 ( +15 / -1 )

Anyone with kids know there 101 ways kids can meet unfortunate situations and it's up to us to keep them safe and stay on our toes. This is a very unfortunate accident, nothing more. I'm sure this father and family is devastated and I wish them all the best. RIP little one.

-2 ( +12 / -14 )

The temperature in the car would have been much higher than 27.8 C.

How can a father not remember his own child???

9 ( +10 / -1 )

And they should have mentioned about the mother...

Is he divorced? Has she died?

If she was at home, probably she would have remembered about the little girl.

-16 ( +1 / -17 )

So over EIGHT hours the so called father never once wondered if his two year old needed a diaper change? Was hungry? Was very quiet? Just unbelievable... and very sad.

14 ( +15 / -1 )

"forgot", meaning "I'll just leave her so I can work" ... work culture in Japan is toxic.

13 ( +15 / -2 )

I can not imagine what the mother here is going through right now. She has an idiot for a husband and another child she has to raise.

My heart goes out to her and her other child.....Dad, you deserve punishment in kind, repeatedly over the course of the next 20 years or so!

Everyone is so quick to jump to judgement. It's pretty evident he didn't know the kid was in the car and thought it was whenever he thought it was but not in the car. Maybe he thought the kids was at hoikuen and mom was working

no pachinko?

Seriously, stories such as these still baffle me. People know what a hot car feels like. So how can you forget your children in a hot car? Doesn't matter what countries these situations take place, i still can't understand a plausible reason as to how you forget or leave your child in a hot car. The weather doesn't even matter. Your child should never be alone in a car under any circumstances.

Everyone is so quick to jump to judgement.

Yeah well when you are watching you 2 year old and forget their entire existence for 8 hours kinda easy to judge.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

The father might have a disability.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Another one of those slimy get-out-of-jail excuses commonly used in Japan.

It's not that hard, and it can happen to anyone. Eight hours is a very long time not to check on a 2-year-old though. But it's possible the child was usually with her mother for the day, and he may have completely forgot he had her there.

It's a horrible thing all around, and of course his fault, but calls for hanging and prison come from lynch mob mentalities.

The father might have a disability.

Yes, there are a whole host of things we don't know about. RIP to the child.

The story does not say, but I suspect the father was supposed to drive onwards to a hoikuen and drop the two year old off, but forgot. The reason the child was left in the car is because the father thought the child was being looked after at hoikuen or grandma's or wherever as normal. This has happened before.

As for why you would forget to go to hoikuen, I'll just say this from personal experience. Bad weather aside, we only drive our elementary age kids to school in the morning when one of them has messed up their routine and is running very late. This usually puts my wife who takes them in a really bad mood.

I am sure there are many married couples without children who would like to adopt a child . . . .

Some are saying its easy. I'm sorry. I've never once forgotten my own children in the car or even my nieces and nephews. Didn't matter how quiet they were. I've never even come close to forgetting. Especially when you are the one that placed them in their child seat. Looking in the backseat when I'm getting out or entering a car has always just been instinctual for me.

The "parents" need to see some serious jail time.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Slip your mind...for 7 hours? Unbelievable and sad. RIP.

This happened in NZ to a female doctor of all people. She drove to the hospital and forgot the child was in the back seat. Upon finding her child dead in the car she collapsed with shock and had to be taken to hospital herself.

Thx god she's safe... right?

Ok, how does your own personal experience disprove someone else's?

You've never forgotten your own kid. That doesn't mean that kids aren't sometimes forgotten.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

WTF????!! How could you do that daddy??!!!

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Seriously, stories such as these still baffle me.

Forgot child was in the car and women that didn't know they were pregnant as they deliver a baby are my top 2 baffling stories.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

You've never forgotten your own kid. That doesn't mean that kids aren't sometimes forgotten.

You can not forget about a 2 year old for 8 house. You just can't. That is criminal neglect.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Not sure why car companies have not stepped up to solve this issue with technology, this kind of incidents are common occurrences and something as simple as temperature/humidity sensor, motion sensor would go a long way.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The kid was probably asleep when he returned and he thought it would be a good idea to leave her there so he could get his work done. The poor little girl would have died a horrible death. Some people just don’t deserve to be parents. So sad!

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

He forgot his child was in the car? He failed to notice she wasn’t around for 7 hours?

I don’t believe him. He probably wanted to keep the child out of the way so left her in the car deliberately.

This man will bear the guilt of the death of his daughter until the end of his life!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Some are saying its easy. I'm sorry. I've never once forgotten my own children in the car

I am sure there are lost of mistakes you have never made, yet millions of others have. People are different, and circumstances are different. There are simply not enough details here, though as usual, the crowd here wants blood.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

In America I believe there was a slogan saying "put something important in the backseat so you don't forget your child" I'm like wtf isn't a child important enough. It's sad to see all this abuse towards children, and what's worse I may never have a child of my own to look after, when that is all I would want in life.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Not defending this father because I don't know the full story, but it's entirely possible this article has had a little bit of context intentionally left out or worded in a particular way that it gets readers riled up to comment. I just cannot imagine forgetting my child like that... I'm sure there is some more context that won't necessarily excuse the father but will offer more clarity to how this happened.

The man then returned to his home and worked there for hours. At around 3 p.m., he drove back to the school to pick up the elder daughter, and after parking noticed his younger daughter still in the child seat in the rear, the police said.

exactly same thing happened to an Australian father a couple years ago, so sad

I just couldn't comprehend how I could live with myself if I had did that to one of my children.

thankfully in Japan I always put my kid in the front passenger seat, in some countries this is illegal due to safety concerns, but having them beside me talking to me on the way to daycare going shopping, I always knew I wouldn't forget they were with me even if they were asleep. I know the father is wrong but i cant help feel for the guy and the mother, stupid mistake which theyll have to live with the rest of their lives.

on another safety note I always drumbed into my kids to wear their seat belts, and still do today, although my eldest is at the age now that he compulsively does it as soon as he gets in the car, which is the way it should be

Father was working from home... I'm guessing due to COVID 19 was used to working at the office and not taking care of the children and leaving that burden on the wife...

I'm pretty sure she's going to make his life a severe living hell from now on.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Apparently he was supposed to drop off the 2 year old at day care, but somehow didn't realize she was in the car. Armchair warriors are up in arms, but as a father of three, I think there is no prison or punishment comparable with the hell the father is in now

1 ( +3 / -2 )

This is a recognized phenomena called Forgotten Baby Syndrome. It doesn't necessarily mean the parents is a bad parent.

Just another "made up excuse" and it certainly DOES make them a person who shouldnt be a parent in the first place, or ever!

"Good parents" never forget their children, anywhere! "Bad parents" do!

(I am not talking about losing sight of them or anything like that, I am talking about cases like this one here!)

I was waiting for this to be one of the perennial "while the unemployed parents went inside to play pachinko" stories. Oh well, the summer's only just beginning. Give it time. It will happen.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

I often leave my dog in the car for 7hrs. Windows open and with water. Check up every few hours. He is a very strong dog, swims in the sea when it snows, walks around big cities when it is 38degrees.

But a 2 year old human child?

still not toilet trained, can’t make proper sentences, and most of all, is at the peak of learning and needs love and care.

I always know where my dog is. But to not know where your young child is?

I agree that the life is destroyed for the van driver recently who took a shortcut and killed a running around child in a car park.

but hey, it is a massive responsibility to have kids and he failed. How can you not notice a 2yr old at your home while working?

hard labor in prison would give time for reflection, but on release, he really needs lessons on responsibility.

he still has 2 more kids to raise...

Like I said yesterday to Mirai Hayashi who asked how often we have to read about this, “Every day”. And here we are again, sure enough. Perhaps a few less people eager to rush on and say the neglect resulting in death should Not be punished, but still there will be some, and thanks to them we’ll see you again tomorrow. RIP to the little girl, and I hope I’m wrong and dad faces criminal charges.

Seriously, "forgetting" your child for 8 hours? That is utter BS.

When my two year old gets quiet, I have all the more reason to go check on him. He is a very vocal child and when he gets quiet, he is usually up to no good.

Every young child needs supervision!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I don't buy this story. He didn't think during the day the child could be hungry or needed attention, etc. ? The mother didn't call asking how the child was doing? No no no no. What WAS he doing?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

..after parking noticed his younger daughter still in the child seat in the rear, the police said.

He entered the car, went to school and still didn't notice the child in the back seat!? What kind of job does he have to make him so absent minded or uncaring?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

For 7 hours, he never thought

"Oh, is it time to change diapers?"

"Oh, is it time to eat?"

"Oh, why is it so quiet?"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This is similar to a case in the US, in which the Father was arrested and accused of killing his two kids. But it turned out, that a neighbours security cam, videoed the Kids climbing into the Father's truck unassisted and without his knowledge - they sadly got locked in and died.

Though in this case, one has to think negligence is more appropriate.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Eye for an eye, tooth . . .

Lock him in a car for 7 hours in the heat

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Well he just forgot. He shouldn't be punished too much, maybe probation or a fine for this.
