2-year-old girl falls to her death from 6th floor of condo

A two-year-old girl died after she apparently fell to her death from the sixth floor of the apartment building where she lived in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Monday.

According to police, a passerby saw the girl, Yoshino Tomozoe, lying on the ground in front of the seven-story building at around 8 a.m. and called 110, Fuji TV reported. The child was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police said that Yoshino was alone in the apartment at the time. Her mother had taken her sister to kindergarten and her father had left for work. She fell from the staircase outside her family’s apartment.

Maybe they both left at the same time

Then why did you say 'the mom made a mistake she'll pay for the rest of her life'

I have compassion for the father who had to receive a call saying that his baby daughter was dead because of something stupid his wife did

The story doesn’t say whether it was the mother or father that left her there:

Police said that Yoshino was alone in the apartment at the time. Her mother had taken her sister to kindergarten and her father had left for work.

And believe it or not, I do have compassion for the mother. While recently cutting my 12 year old (who I have raised from a baby) granddaughter's bangs, I accidentally nipped her skin. I felt terrible for days. Multiply that by a billion and I get it.

Readers, no more badmouthing the mother please.

I don't hate them, I hate the stupid decision that was made.

the mother was to lazy to take her 2 yr old with her when she took her other child to kindergarten.

Which part of the story in particular has led you to this conclusion that she is lazy? I'm not seeing anything, are you reading the same article, or commenting on an article you read somewhere else that laid out the case for her being lazy?

I love the way you're defending the decision to leave a two-year-old Home Alone.

No, I think it was an extremely poor decision. I didn't defend it at all. You are so hung up in being Outraged in the Age of Outrage, that you lose any compassion for this poor woman who, unless she is a sociopath, will probably beat herself up for the rest of her life over this.

Wouldn't it be nice if she had the financial or social means by which to not have landed in a position where she needed to make the decision, which turned out to be so poor? I bet she does. I know I do.

But it's a lot easier to hate someone anonymously on the internet than it is to show compassion.

I love the way you're defending the decision to leave a two-year-old Home Alone. I have compassion, compassion for the little girl who is dead because her parents left her alone.

can you recite a time when leaving a two-year-old Home Alone is a good idea?

No one has ever claimed it was. And almost no one wants to leave a 2-year old at home, they'd probably love the luxury of having someone around to help and stay home with the 2-year old while they went out. Not everyone has the luxury of being able to do that. It's a tragedy when something like this happens, because the mother probably was already in a hectic position, and now her child is dead, which she'll have to live with for the rest of her life.

Show some compassion.

Who but the parents are responsible for their child? Who else could be to blame here? Society? City Hall? 7-Eleven staff? The blame lies completely and solely on the parents.

@ rgcivilian - the parents incompetence at leaving a two year old Home Alone directly resulted in her death, or can you recite a time when leaving a two-year-old Home Alone is a good idea?

This happens all the time here. So much so that it beggars belief people will still leave their near-infants at home, windows/doors open, balcony covered in stuff to climb up. This poor little girl. Then mom probably came home and though, "Oops! Sure is inconvenient to take a little kid with you when doing things, but maybe leaving her at home was a mistake!"

Regardless of how this tragedy occurred or what let to its occurrence doesn't change the fact a child is deceased. This is most unfortunate and not the time to speculate or press offensive opinions that fall on deaf mute ears. Too many what if's to blame the parents out directly and not enough information provided aside no parents were at home.

Somehow it's doesn't surprise me at all.

RIP little girl

My daughter has been able to lock and unlock our balcony doors since she was 1.5 years old. A 2 year old should NEVER be left alone at home for any length of time. They’re much smarter that most people think.

It can be tough taking kids to hoikuen/yochien in the mornings, especially when you have to drag a second child along. But it’s just not worth the risk. Parents, always choose the safest option.

you leave your two-year-old child home alone and don't even bother to lock the door? it's amazing that this mother-of-the-year managed to keep her six-year-old alive.

Obviously didn't lock the door either

Parents leaving two year olds on their own is far more common than it should be in Japan. I would go as far as saying that it is socially acceptable. Completely irresponsible, but socially acceptable.

There may be special circumstances sometimes, but most of the time it will just be lazy parenting.

Poor little thing

Tragic story. Those poor parents. The mom made a mistake she'll pay for for the rest of her life.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Tragic.

Its true though, no matter how busy you are you absolutely cannot leave a two year old home alone like that. Ever. This is just common sense, though I am speaking coincidentally as the father of a two year old girl.

Absolutely irresponsible 'parents' this time.

How on Earth. RIP little girl.
