Lovely pic of the Nankai Rapit train that travels from Kansai airport to Namba. We always catch that when we head to the airport. Jolly good value and impressive train.

Why are security costs "likely to balloon"? Is Japan's shrinking and graying population becoming more and more dangerous?

2 ( +19 / -17 )

@JeffLee

They'll probably be ballooning to pay the greying members of the population who'll undoubtedly be doing the 'Security'.

They’ve been talking about this expo for 10 years and people don’t know what it is exactly or why they should go. Need to spend that extra money on marketing

Who has interest in this event? What is the purpose?

0 ( +14 / -14 )

Just keep the unemployed away and you'll be fine.

After Abe's death and Kishida's assassination attempt, Japan is getting not safe anymore. The amateur skills and management of Japanese public security were displayed for the world to see.

The public dissatisfaction from the Japanese extremist xenophobes against the ruling LDP is at an alarming level after learning about the powerful presence of the Unification Church. The rise of Japanese xenophobes is largely due to Shinzo Abe's years of cultivating Japanese hatred of Koreans, and Abe was ironically killed by his own political device. The unlucky assassin, who failed to assassinate Kishida, expressed his extreme disapproval of Korean cultists controlling Japanese politics.

Nevertheless, Japan is pushing immigration reforms to allow easy paths to permanent residency for foreign workers (primarily foreign Asians). At least, the LDP elites gradually shred the old days of Nihonjinron for something more progressive. This expo is intended as a testament to the more progressive Japanese economy.

Price gouging, it's everywhere now as times have been REAL TOUGH in travel/tourism sector!

Don’t they do tickets for a week, month or for the season? Do you have to pay the daily rate every time you go there? I remember the World Expo in Brisbane way back in 1988. I had a season pass and could go there any time I liked.

In japan, the price increase has been substantial, real inflation must be very high. Why increase the ticket price so high, the simple logic is that if you can’t handle organising an event at a current situation, do not take the responsibility to organise. Otherwise, everyone else will pay for the mistake of organising the event.

That's not a problem, nobody can afford the air fare now.

30% hike due to greed! Bottom line these days.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Not likely to go. Always 1-2 hours wait to get into each pavillion. Why pay for that?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Wait I thought Japan was safe!! One of the reason is for tighter security. Ok more Mario Bros in the blue suits with flash lights directing traffic!

Ticket prices for the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka may see a hike of more than 30 percent from 6,000 yen to 8,000 yen due to inflation and higher labor costs associated with tighter security measures, sources familiar with the matter said Thursday.

4800 - 6000 - 8000

By 2025, it will be 15000.

"The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition is considering raising the adult ticket price mainly to cover the event's operational costs, including for security, which are likely to balloon from an initial estimate of 80.9 billion yen, the sources said."

Ah, yes... likely to balloon from predictions. Never heard that before. And now they have decided to put in a bid for Sapporo for 2034. As with Expo they'll pitch a cheap event, then jack up prices as all the middlemen and construction companies clamor for their piece of the pie.

I think we all know that 80% of attendees will be locals who marvel about Japan and its many wonders. No one is going to fly to Japan and pay 30% higher costs to see stuff they can see online.

ticket prices may see over 30% hike

that's funny, people interested in buying tickets just went down under 30%.

We went to the Aichi one in 2005 and it was 4600 yen.

I don't remember very much, but we got to see the Mammoth remains and a cinema where Sony had set up three full HD projectors in a row making a 30m wide screen. The film was just Qatsi type nature footage, but on that large a screen, way bigger than Imax, it was very impressive.

6000 yen to 8000 yen isnt such a big deal really.

decent concerts start at 15-17,000 these days and 30-50 for VIP.

Extremely high inflation is worldwide. Not good. I'm sure it is due to globalist policies like the Great Reset.

Good pints old top. Pretty cheap if you ask me and in Osaka you can be sure it will be great.

Soooo many negative nellies here, always grumbling about something or other, lighten up, enjoy life like I do!

It’s a big deal if you are a family with 2 kids on a tight budget, it adds up. It’s not just the train ticket price increase, many other things have seen some significant price hike. So many japanese people’s living standards are getting deteriorating. .

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Personally haven’t noticed that many price increases to be honest. Just a few coins for certain stuff. It’s easy to find well priced good for sure if you make the effort. Just don’t exist on packet stuff. Haven’t noticed train or subway prices increase here either then again I always pay with ICOCA.

Moaning about stuff does nothing to improve your financial situation, more effort is required and the ability to maintain a PMA (positive mental attitude) at all times.

Went to the one in Aichi back in 2005. Pretty nice, but the queue times were worse than Disneyland for way less impressive stuff.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

This is just a "pre" event increase. Just wait, the people in charge will be "forced" to increase them again.

The cost of living has hit the U.K. just as hard as Japan, so that is strange.

This is one reason such "cashless" payment options are being pushed so hard. It's harder to notice the price increases being foisted on the people.

Indeed. Also living at home with parents (a common phenomenon in the U.K.) also masks the real cost.

Possibly, I just charge my card up when it’s low and don’t really think about it. Mind you I generally only use for public transport, occasionally at a combini if I can’t be bothered with small change, lol

The Expo is being pushed pretty hard here now, plenty of adverts on Mido Suji line lately. I doubt I’d want to do anyway, it’s a shame but it will be too busy and I dint like busy places and I detest queuing up a long time for things, it makes me feel ghastly.

Mind you, it may leave something for the future like Expo Park which we travel two a couple of times a year, it’s lovely there apart from having to catch the horrible little monorail there, they seats are small and made of plastic.
