A 24-year-old police officer apparently shot himself to death in a forest off a mountain road in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, prefectural police said Sunday.
According to police, the officer's body was found at around 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Fuji TV reported that a resident walking in the area called police to say that a police bike was parked by the side of the road in the mountains and that there was nobody around.
Police went to the scene and searched the area. The body of the officer was found in the woods about 100 meters away from his bike. He had a gunshot wound to the head and his pistol was clutched in his right hand, police said.
The dead officer was stationed at a koban. Police said he asked for Saturday morning off to attend to a family matter and showed up for work at noon. At around 1 p.m., he left the koban without saying where he was going and that was the last time he was seen.
Police said no suicide note was found.

Obviously the content of that "family matter" on Saturday morning, played a major factor to this suicide. He should've asked for the whole day off to ponder the situation and get help.

How sad...I check the date of policeman's suiside in japan. In japan, the average of that is 10 policemen dead per a year. I think the problem is not only familly matter but also japanese police system..

Anyone investigating possible foul play? Seen plenty of law & orders of murders staged as suicides - it happens in real life too. See if he rubbed against anyone the wrong way (as a cop, probably).

What is strange about this police suicide is that he did not shoot himself inside his Koban. I think 2 in the box would be better than one to stop the loneliness.
